HRMT2130 (3 credits)<br />

Training, Development and Performance Management<br />

This course introduces students to performance management<br />

through training and development. Topics include: tools for performance<br />

assessment, assessing individual and organizational training<br />

needs, principles of adult learning, organizational impact assessment,<br />

and training compliance and record keeping.<br />

HRMT2140 (3 credits)<br />

Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness<br />

This course prepares students to lead organizational compliance with<br />

regulated occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations, including:<br />

develop OHS policy, implement compliance programs, implement<br />

information and reporting systems, and direct work accommodations.<br />

Students will also be equipped to manage critical incidents,<br />

and develop wellness programs which enhance organizational performance.<br />

HRMT2150 (3 credits)<br />

Employee and labour Relations<br />

This course prepares students to support line managers in employee<br />

management including hiring, discipline and termination in both a<br />

unionized and non-unionized environment. Students are also prepared<br />

to provide organizational leadership in labour relations including:<br />

preparing for collective bargaining, negotiations, and interpreting<br />

agreements. Alternative processes to negotiated settlements will<br />

be examined, including arbitration and mediation.<br />

HRMT2160 (3 credits)<br />

Strategic Human Resource planning and Management<br />

This capstone course will integrate topics from all human resource<br />

(HR) sub-topics with an emphasis on how to coordinate HR policy<br />

to achieve organizations’ strategic aims, and effectiveness assessment.<br />

Emphasis will be placed on information collection, organization and<br />

utilization, and on the major HR strategies’ benefits and challenges.<br />

HRMT2170 (3 credits)<br />

Recruitment and Selection<br />

This course prepares students to project future staffing needs, adopt<br />

appropriate staffing strategies, and to assess staffing effectiveness. Additional<br />

topics include staffing legalities, recruitment sources, selection<br />

techniques and tools.<br />

HRMT2180 (3 credits)<br />

Employment Law<br />

In this course students will gain an understanding of the principles<br />

and policies related to employment, particular within Alberta.<br />

Topics will include: labour law, Freedom of Information and<br />

Protection of Privacy compliance and reporting, human rights, and<br />

contractual law.<br />

HRMT2190 (3 credits)<br />

Negotiations and Conflict Resolution in the Workplace<br />

This course introduces the principles of inter-personal negotiation<br />

and conflict resolution. Topics include: structural and relational<br />

sources of conflict, positive communication techniques, alternative<br />

resolution processes, and conflict resolution policy development.<br />

HSS2040 (1 credit)<br />

Human & Social Services 2040 Family Foundations<br />

Students gain an appreciation for their role in strengthening the current<br />

and future family relationships and the rights, roles and responsibilities<br />

of family members throughout the family life cycle. Students<br />

examine changes that occur within a family and the required<br />

adjustments family members must make to manage changes effectively.<br />

Cultural diversities are investigated and community resources<br />

that support families are identified.<br />

Information Processing 1030 Word Processing 1<br />

Students are introduced to the proper use of word processing software,<br />

including document creation, editing, and printing of properly<br />

formatted documents.<br />

INF1050 (1 credit)<br />

Information Processing 1050 Database 1<br />

Students develop skills in the proper use of a database management<br />

system by developing flat-file databases and demonstrating their use<br />

in personal and business applications.<br />

INF1060 (1 credit)<br />

Information Processing 1060 Spreadsheet 1<br />

Students develop skills in the proper use of spreadsheet software<br />

through general data manipulation and personal recordkeeping.<br />

INF1070 (1 credit)<br />

Information Processing 1070 Digital Presentation<br />

Students develop skills with tools used for computerized presentations<br />

involving text, data, graphics, sound and animation.<br />

INF2020 (1 credit)<br />

Information Processing 2020 Keyboarding<br />

Students enhance their occupational level keyboarding competence<br />

of all keystroke functions, using unedited, edited and straight copy<br />

material. Depending on entry level proficiency, the student is expected<br />

to use text entry to type 30 to 50 words per minute, and to use<br />

numeric key pad to enter 100 to 150 strokes per minute, both with a<br />

maximum of one uncorrected error.<br />
