III. MONITORING<br />

With<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> two-week period only one monitor<strong>in</strong>g visit was<br />

undertaken by Pirnazar Shodmonov (head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sanitary<br />

department) to Tursunzade and Varzob districts.<br />

Never<strong>the</strong>less, <strong>the</strong> field teams cont<strong>in</strong>ue to call UNICEF and<br />

SES for consultation, as when Khatlon and RRS teams<br />

visited <strong>the</strong> UNICEF <strong>of</strong>fice for consultations on <strong>quality</strong><br />

control procedures. The field teams now follow <strong>quality</strong>control<br />

procedures and submit completed forms regularly.<br />

The ma<strong>in</strong> difficulties dur<strong>in</strong>g this period related to <strong>the</strong><br />

w<strong>in</strong>ter. The field teams emphasized <strong>the</strong> difficulty <strong>in</strong> reach<strong>in</strong>g sources, especially spr<strong>in</strong>gs, even with a<br />

car. In Tursunzade district, for example, <strong>the</strong> team had to leave <strong>the</strong> car and walk up <strong>the</strong> mounta<strong>in</strong>s to<br />

get <strong>the</strong> <strong>water</strong> sample.<br />
