III. MONITORING<br />
With<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> two-week period only one monitor<strong>in</strong>g visit was<br />
undertaken by Pirnazar Shodmonov (head <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sanitary<br />
department) to Tursunzade and Varzob districts.<br />
Never<strong>the</strong>less, <strong>the</strong> field teams cont<strong>in</strong>ue to call UNICEF and<br />
SES for consultation, as when Khatlon and RRS teams<br />
visited <strong>the</strong> UNICEF <strong>of</strong>fice for consultations on <strong>quality</strong><br />
control procedures. The field teams now follow <strong>quality</strong>control<br />
procedures and submit completed forms regularly.<br />
The ma<strong>in</strong> difficulties dur<strong>in</strong>g this period related to <strong>the</strong><br />
w<strong>in</strong>ter. The field teams emphasized <strong>the</strong> difficulty <strong>in</strong> reach<strong>in</strong>g sources, especially spr<strong>in</strong>gs, even with a<br />
car. In Tursunzade district, for example, <strong>the</strong> team had to leave <strong>the</strong> car and walk up <strong>the</strong> mounta<strong>in</strong>s to<br />
get <strong>the</strong> <strong>water</strong> sample.<br />
