In Memoriam<br />

Mary Bigham Farren ’38, in<br />

Jan. <strong>2011</strong>. She worked at Monroe<br />

County Social Services as a home<br />

finder for foster children until she<br />

retired in 1985. She was also the<br />

co-founder of St. Joseph’s House<br />

of Hospitality, former leader of St.<br />

Augustine’s Girl Scout Troop 886,<br />

and worked with Bethany House,<br />

all in the Rochester area.<br />

Sister Teresa Clare<br />

Ehrmentraut ’42, on Jan. 25,<br />

<strong>2011</strong>. She entered the congregation<br />

of the Sisters of St. Joseph in<br />

1924 and taught at St. Monica’s<br />

School in Rochester and at Elmira<br />

Catholic High School for more<br />

than 20 years. She joined the<br />

<strong>Nazareth</strong> <strong>College</strong> business faculty<br />

in 1955, became secretary to the<br />

president in 1960, and served as<br />

the <strong>College</strong>’s first archivist beginning<br />

in 1980. Upon her retirement<br />

from <strong>Nazareth</strong> in 1987, she served<br />

as the Sisters of St. Joseph congregational<br />

archivist and tutored<br />

sisters who were studying at<br />

<strong>Nazareth</strong> and residing at the<br />

SSJ Motherhouse.<br />

Jean Antonietta Cappellino<br />

’46, in late Dec. 2010. She was a<br />

teacher and director of foreign<br />

languages and the Major<br />

Achievement Program in the<br />

Rochester City School District. She<br />

earned the Distinguished Peace<br />

Service Award in 1994 and dedicated<br />

a great amount of time to<br />

Sister Cities International and<br />

Amnesty International.<br />

Mary Lucia Stoltman ’55, in<br />

early Jan. <strong>2011</strong>. She was a teacher<br />

before returning to help her parents<br />

with the family farm, which<br />

she continued to run after her<br />

parents’ passing. She was a member<br />

of St. Rose’s Church in Lima<br />

as well as the Catholic Daughters<br />

of America.<br />

Bernadine Carroll Warren ’58,<br />

in late Oct. 2010. She worked at<br />

the Newark Development Center<br />

in Wayne County and later for<br />

35 years at the Finger Lakes<br />

Developmental Disabilities Services<br />

Office. She eventually became a<br />

placement specialist at FLDDSO,<br />

where she found community<br />

residences for clients. Later in her<br />

life she operated a successful<br />

antique business.<br />

Gail Campanella Dagon ’60,<br />

in Dec. 2010. After receiving a<br />

master’s degree in mathematics<br />

education from the University of<br />

Rochester, she was a mathematics<br />

teacher at Benjamin Franklin and<br />

Mercy High Schools in Rochester,<br />

as well as a substitute mathematics<br />

teacher at Brighton High School.<br />

Lynne M. Serusa ’69, in Nov.<br />

2010. She was an educator in the<br />

Buffalo City School District until<br />

her retirement and was also active<br />

in NEA and Buffalo Teachers<br />

organizations.<br />

Margaret Cappione Fleming<br />

’71, in Nov. 2010. She taught<br />

remedial reading at Kakiat Junior<br />

High in Spring Valley for 15 years<br />

before her retirement. She was a<br />

member of the NYS Retired<br />

Teachers Association.<br />

Miriam Komesar ’74, in Jan.<br />

<strong>2011</strong>. She taught at the high<br />

school and college levels. After<br />

teaching, she became an advertising<br />

executive before retiring.<br />

Janice Colvin Collins ’74G, in<br />

Nov. 2010. She was an elementary<br />

school teacher at Jefferson Avenue<br />

School in Fairport for more than<br />

20 years.<br />

Joann DelVecchio ’77G, in Nov.<br />

2010. She worked with BOCES #1,<br />

<strong>Nazareth</strong> <strong>College</strong>, and Newark<br />

State School throughout her<br />

career. She also volunteered at the<br />

Red Cross, WXXI-TV, and George<br />

Eastman House in Rochester.<br />

Timmielyn Gooshaw Scaggs<br />

’91, in Nov. 2010. She was an art<br />

teacher at Sherman and Kennedy<br />

Elementary Schools for 18 years<br />

before her retirement.<br />

Jessica Shackelton MacLay<br />

’03, on Feb. 20, <strong>2011</strong>. After a<br />

career as a student leader, she<br />

continued to serve the <strong>Nazareth</strong><br />

community in her role as an<br />

Americorp*VISTA member, during<br />

which she developed the successful<br />

programs Partners for Serving<br />

and the Service Floor.<br />

Gabrielle Acevedo ’11, on<br />

Feb. 4, <strong>2011</strong>. She was a counselor<br />

and lifeguard at Port Chester<br />

Recreation Department, a peer<br />

leadership mentor for the Anthony<br />

Foust Mentoring Program, and a<br />

member of Partners for Learning.<br />
