Management <strong>of</strong> carbon sources<br />
Country adaptation activities<br />
The priority is greenhouse gas mitigation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> energy sec<strong>to</strong>r with active measures by<br />
<strong>the</strong> M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Energy <strong>to</strong> promote supply and use <strong>of</strong> renewable and alternative energies<br />
<strong>in</strong> electricity generation and transport and <strong>to</strong> promote energy efficiency <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> residential,<br />
commercial and <strong>in</strong>dustrial sec<strong>to</strong>rs, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g:<br />
• Establishment <strong>of</strong> market mechanisms <strong>to</strong> promote <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> alternative energies <strong>in</strong><br />
electricity generation (electricity generation from biogas, biomass, solar energy, etc.);<br />
• Establishment and improvement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> supply <strong>of</strong> and <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>frastructure <strong>to</strong> support <strong>the</strong> use<br />
<strong>of</strong> renewable and alternative energies <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> transport sec<strong>to</strong>r (use <strong>of</strong> biodiesel, gasohol);<br />
• Implementation <strong>of</strong> Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) <strong>to</strong> promote greenhouse gas<br />
mitigation <strong>in</strong> various sec<strong>to</strong>rs (M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Natural Resources and Environment);<br />
• Activities <strong>to</strong> promote energy efficiency <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> urban residential and commercial sec<strong>to</strong>rs<br />
by <strong>the</strong> M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Natural Resources and Environment and as laid out <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bangkok’s<br />
Strategic Plan on Climate Change;<br />
• Development <strong>of</strong> legal <strong>in</strong>struments <strong>to</strong> promote energy-efficient mach<strong>in</strong>ery <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dustrial<br />
sec<strong>to</strong>r;<br />
• Activities <strong>to</strong> reduce open burn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> agricultural and waste sec<strong>to</strong>rs;<br />
• Waste management by shift<strong>in</strong>g from open dump<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> sanitary landfills and by promot<strong>in</strong>g<br />
5Rs pr<strong>in</strong>ciple (Reduce/Reuse/Recycle/Refill/Repair).<br />
Promotion <strong>of</strong> carbon s<strong>in</strong>ks<br />
• Afforestation and reforestation projects by <strong>the</strong> M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> Natural Resources and<br />
Environment.<br />
• Increase <strong>of</strong> urban green space as laid out <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Bangkok’s Strategic Plan on Climate<br />
Change.<br />
CDM Projects<br />
• Biomass Power Projects.<br />
• Biogas Projects.<br />
