Dignity Supporting Children and Adults Who Have Experienced a Loss Due to Death The Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Bereavement Center is a community based grief support program that offers individual counseling, crisis response, educational programs, and school and workplace services. In addition to traditional support groups, the bereavement center offers a variety of art therapy groups, massage therapy, and yoga for individuals on their grief journey. These wellness initiatives offer a unique opportunity for the bereaved to be with other grieving individuals and to express their feelings creatively. Collaboration with community partners is important to the bereavement center. This is the second year we assisted the ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter in providing a camp for children who have a loved one with ALS. The bereavement center provides art therapy, as well as creative problem solving activities. In addition, this is our third annual camp collaboration with the Children Who Witness Violence program for children who have experienced a death due to trauma. The bereavement center continues to provide annual bereavement day camps and special events for hospice and community families. “Art therapy focuses on the creative process as a healing process, and on the resulting artwork as a form of communication.
