Celebrating 10 years serving more
than 10,000 patients
Built in 1994, Hospice House opened
in 1995 to be a home away from home
for patients and families facing one
of life’s most challenging times. It has
been a place of comfort for children
to seniors so that they would not have
to face death alone,
afraid or in pain. The
42-bed facility provides
residential, pain and
symptom management
and respite care.
Now celebrating its
10th anniversary, Hospice House
incorporates unique amenities specific
to the needs of our patients and families
including patient rooms with French
doors leading to outdoor patios, a
gallery walk showcasing art work done
by patients and families, a library and
music room, a playroom and playground
for children, spa rooms and several
garden areas including a Vista Walk
along the shore of Lake Erie.
Hospice of the Western Reserve launches
a new wellness program and a smoke-free
inititiative called A Breath of Fresh Air.
In an effort to protect its shoreline from
erosion, we partnered with the US Army
Corps of Engineers and the Cleveland-
Cuyahoga County Port Authority for
erosion control and enhancements,
such as a new boardwalk. The project
consisted of 1,275
feet of stone shoreline
protection, including
a concrete access road,
and a handicap accessible
ramp. Funding for a
deck overlooking the
boardwalk area was made
possible with a gift from B. Charles
and Jay Ames. The warm October
dedication ceremony stirred up
peaceful memories of the more than
10,000 patients who have stayed
at Hospice House over the past ten
years, and the future patients and
families who will enjoy their stay at
Hospice House.
