Mom wanted to meet her
twin great-granddaughters
before “going home.”
“You listened, comforted, and at times even seemed
to perform miracles for our little girl.”
Comfort care
Caring for the physical and emotional
need of you and your child.
They brought much joy to her
final days and reminded us that
the cycle of life continues—death
replaced by new life. Perhaps
Mom’s spirit was so great, she
needed two people to replace it.
When children develop life-threatening
conditions, care is typically focused only on
the child. The specialized pediatric team
extends beyond the immediate circle of
the child who is ill by involving the child’s
family, friends, classmates, and neighbors.
With support from The Michael James
Pender Memorial Fund, and dedicated
in his memory, a reference manual for
caregivers of children with serious illness
was created. The Pediatric Caregiver Guide
includes information about patient care
and the emotional needs to help families
identify and express their preferences in the
care of their child.
The Pediatric Team cared for
more than 100 children in 2005.
