HESS-535—History, Philosophy, and Curriculum of Physical<br />
Education<br />
Three Credit Hours<br />
This course introduces students to the historical and philosophical<br />
roots of physical education and examines the degree to which<br />
these influence curricular models and decisions made by K-12<br />
practitioners.<br />
HESS-550—Instructional Aspects of Physical Education<br />
Three Credit Hours<br />
This course is designed to discuss theories of instruction in physical<br />
education settings including environmental arrangements, task<br />
presentation, content development, and feedback. Practical<br />
applications of these principles to small peer group settings using<br />
open and closed motor skills will be included.<br />
HESS-551—Content and Methods of Teaching Secondary<br />
Physical Education<br />
Three Credit Hours<br />
This course is designed to develop both the pedagogical skills of<br />
teacher candidates as well as content knowledge in teaching team and<br />
individual/dual sports. Emphasis is placed on planning, teaching,<br />
and evaluating physical education lessons in secondary settings.<br />
Additional emphasis is placed on candidate skill development in<br />
team and individual/dual sports.<br />
Prerequisite: HESS 550 or permission of the instructor.<br />
HESS-561—Advanced Measurement and Evaluation in Physical<br />
Education<br />
Three Credit Hours<br />
Analysis and interpretations of data associated with various cognitive,<br />
affective and psychomotor tests commonly used in physical education.<br />
Topics include test administration, test construction, performancebased<br />
assessments, rubrics, and physical fitness and skill testing.<br />
HESS-620—Professional Internship in Teaching<br />
Six Credit Hours<br />
A requirement for teacher certification, observation, and teaching<br />
in approved schools under supervision by college professor. Two<br />
placements are required: one in an elementary school setting and<br />
one in a secondary school setting. A field experience component<br />
of a minimum of 60 days is required.<br />
