4) ensure that victims of domestic violence are
adequately protected and supported
5) reduce the rate of domestic violence related
homicides
These key outcomes will inform the outcomes of
the Newcastle Domestic Violence and Abuse
Reduction Strategy.
4.4 BVPI
In April 2005 the revised Best Value Performance
Indicator, BVPI 225 (see appendix 1) came into
force. Prior to the BVPI relating to domestic
violence, local authorities measured only the
number of refuge spaces provided and therefore
did not reflect the wide range of strategic and
operational activities that are needed to
effectively tackle domestic violence. The
purpose of the revised BVPI is to assess the
overall provision and effectiveness of local
authority services designed to help victims
of domestic violence and to prevent further
incidents.
The development of this strategy has been
informed by the following national strategies,
legislation, guidance and policies.
National:
Forced Marriages Guidelines
Female Genital Mutilation Act (2003)
Children and Young People’s and Maternity Services
