Victims Voices
Peter, Father of three,
contacted the Domestic
Violence Protection
Project after suffering
domestic violence in
silence for four years.
“She woke me up by hitting me. I have a laceration
to my neck, then she spat in my face. I don’t feel
well at all. She has burnt my face with a kettle. I
want her kept away from us. I can’t go anywhere
looking like this. I’ve had enough of life now. There
is just no point in it.”
Intervention
A Victim Support worker tried to telephone Peter
several times but there was no answer. She then
contacted the police and together they went to
Peter’s home. They found Peter very distressed
and confused. A risk assessment confirmed he
was a ‘high risk’ victim. The Victim Support worker
sat down with Peter and worked out a safety plan.
Support was provided to help Peter move out of
his home.
After
“I would like to thank you for your phone call
yesterday and the relief that at last someone
believes me. Having someone to help me has
brought tears of joy to me that I haven’t had for
many years. Thank you for that and I will see you
soon, there’s so much I need to tell you.”
