5. Context of domestic violence and abuse in Newcastle continued Your Homes Newcastle, Delivery Plan 2006-07 Two out of their seven stated strategic objectives are to: Increase choice and expand their business by: – delivering an expanded range of “added value” support services to tenants – attracting new customers for their core services – offering more choice to customers and potential customers by increased joint working with other agencies, particularly other housing providers through Your Choice Homes – offering a range of services that meet the changing needs of their tenants as they progress through the different stages of life – meeting the diverse range of needs that exist in the community and respond to new needs as they emerge Be responsible to the community by: – working with their tenants and other agencies to make the City a safer place to live – working to ensure that people from all the communities that live here find Newcastle to be a City that supports them and welcomes the contribution they make – providing vulnerable people with the support they need to live independently – being a good employer, bringing investment, training and jobs to the City – working with partners to maximise the social and economic well-being of tenants and leaseholders Newcastle’s Children and Young People’s Strategic Partnership: A Strategy for Newcastle’s Children and Young People 2004 The main themes of this strategy are: – The rights of children and young people to have access to excellent public services – A commitment to end the social exclusion of young people by removing the negative effects of social exclusion on their development and the risk of becoming socially excluded as adults – That children and young people should have the choice to contribute to their local community, be heard and be valued as responsible citizens. The vision for children and young people is for them to: – Enjoy the best physical, emotional and spiritual health and development so that they feel good about themselves and their lives – Be safe and protected from harm within their families and communities – Be fulfilled, enjoying and achieving in all areas of their life – in particular education – Take part in all areas of their life – Live free from poverty and hardship North East Regional Resettlement Strategy; Government Office for the North East 2005 – Enable a coordinated and integrated response to the resettlement and rehabilitation of offenders – Reduce the risk of harm to victims, communities and vulnerable groups – Contribute to the building of safer communities through the provision of effective programmes for offenders before, during and post custody – To play a part in the regeneration of the region by helping build safer communities 2 Newcastle Domestic Violence And Abuse Strategy
