RACING CREW
“It’s easier to focus when it comes to one car,” said HMRT Team
Manager C.W. Loh. “This is part of the key learning that we (HMRT)
had last year. We have reverted back to synchronising an all-local
team on one car, to re-learn the whole process and fine tune the
organisation before expanding again,” he added.
Despite the difficulties adapting to changes in race regulations,
HMRT is no stranger to challenges, which is why Team Principal, Toru
Takahashi, expressed strong confidence in the team before the race
began,“I believe HMRT will continue to stand proud with their high
strength of mind and do their best in the race.”
With the team’s motto for the 2009 MME race as Rising to the
Challenge, there’s no denying that HMRT surpassed all expectations
this year, capturing its best result yet – second place in Class A2 –
within just two years of having gone all-local.
Growing from a team under the complete guidance and supervision
of the MUGEN team from Japan during its first MME, to becoming a
100 percent Malaysian team last year, Mr. Takahashi said, “This is
the ultimate objective of HMRT – to train and build up the skills of
local talents to thrive in the motorsports and automotive arena.”
Honda Malaysia’s participation in the MME for seven years has been
a driving force behind promoting The Challenging Spirit amongst its
associates, helping them to realise their full potential. By exposing
Honda Malaysia associates to the rigorous demands of an
international race such as MME, it improves their operational
autonomy and strengthens core work values that channel to better
work ethics and more efficient practices.
QUALIFYING ROUND
With the three drivers consistently clocking an average 2mins
25secs as the team’s best time Car #27 managed to qualify top of
Class A2, ahead of the other 19 cars that entered in the same
category. This allowed HMRT to be placed in 17th position, behind
the class A1 pole sitter. All three HMRT drivers were looking forward
to performing well come Race Day.
