2010 GAME SUMMARIES
while senior Tom Duerr added two goals for the Blue Jays.
The Pride got on the board first as sophomore Mike DeNapoli took a feed
from Loizeaux and beat Blue Jays goalie Michael Gvozden 4:30 into the
contest. It was DeNapoli’s sixth goal of the season. The Blue Jays tied the
contest just 55 seconds later as Tom Duerr fired a bullet on the run past
Pride goalie Rob Bellairs (7 saves).
Hofstra then ran off three unanswered goals as juniors Jamie Lincoln
and Jay Card scored 20 second apart almost three minutes later and Mike
DeNapoli notched his second of the game from Loizeaux from five yards
out with 5:07 to play in the first quarter to give the Pride a 4-1 advantage.
The Blue Jays replaced starter Gvozden with sophomore Stephen Burke
after the Pride’s third goal.
Hopkins closed the gap to two at 4-2 5:20 into the second quarter as Duerr
notched his second of the game-a man-up goal-and fifth of the season off
a pass from Kyle Wharton. But the Pride responded with a man-up goal
from freshman Adrian Sorichetti, off a perfect pass to the crease from Mike
DeNapoli with 4:54 remaining in the half, and Lincoln scored his second of
the contest and seventh of the year, from Loizeaux, with 3:02 to play in the
second quarter to give Hofstra a 6-2 lead at halftime.
The Blue Jays came out strong in the second half as senior Michael
Kimmel scored an unassisted goal just 36 seconds into the half and John
Greeley scored his first of the season, off a pass from Steven Boyle, less
than a minute later to close to 6-4.
But it was all Hofstra from there on as the Pride scored six unanswered
goals to build a 12-4 advantage midway through the fourth quarter.
Lincoln scored his third of the game from Card with 10:02 to play in the
third to boost the Hofstra lead to 7-4. Stephen Bentz then scored back-toback
goals-his sixth and seventh of the year- to give the Pride a five-goal
advantage. Defenseman Mike Skudin scored his first goal of the season
68 — 2011 Hofstra Men’s Lacrosse
and the second of his career with two second to play in the third quarter to
boost the lead to 10-4. Card assisted on Loizeaux’s goal 2:08 into the final
period as well as Lincoln’s fourth of the contest 34 seconds after that.
Boyle stopped Hofstra’s run with a man-up goal from Wharton with 6:44
to play but Card and Lincoln added goals in the last four minutes before
Boyle closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal with 13 seconds to
play.
The Pride outshot the Blue Jays, 34-19 and picked up 28 ground balls to
Hopkins 22. The contest was delayed 14 minutes in the first quarter due to
a blown transformer that put the stadium into semi-darkness.
