NATIONAL TEAM ALUMNI<br />

Hofstra has had 10 alumni play or coach on a United States World<br />

Team. In 2006 three former Pride lacrosse players were members of<br />

the United States National Lacrosse Team at the 2006 International<br />

Lacrosse Federation World Championship in Hamilton, Ontario,<br />

Canada. Attackman Blake Miller ’96, midfielder Doug Shanahan ’01<br />

and defenseman Nicky Polanco ’02 all played key roles in the United<br />

States’ silver medal finish. Shanahan scored eight goals, added three<br />

assists and scooped up a team-high 27 ground balls in seven games at the<br />

World Championship, while Miller added four goals and two assists, and<br />

Polanco, the team’s key defender, picked up 10 ground balls.<br />

The Pride had three players named to the United<br />

States National Indoor Team, which will <strong>com</strong>pete<br />

in the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship<br />

in May. The World Indoor Lacrosse Championship<br />

takes place at Telsa Arena in Prague, Czech<br />

Republic, on May 21-28, 2011. Australia, Canada,<br />

Czech Republic, England, Finland, Ireland and the<br />

Iroquois Nationals will join the United States in the<br />

one-week tournament. Hofstra’s representatives<br />

In addition to Hofstra’s connection with the U.S.<br />

World and National Teams, the Pride has been<br />

well represented as coach or player for foreign<br />

teams. The most recent is Jay Card, who was<br />

named to Canada’s U-19 National Team in 2008.<br />
