are on maternity leave during Practicum will have to extend their<br />

period <strong>of</strong> Practicum accordingly at their own cost.<br />

In view <strong>of</strong> the above, student teachers who are likely to be on<br />

maternity leave during semester time are required to check with<br />

course lecturers on the implications <strong>of</strong> their absence before they go<br />

on maternity leave.<br />

Full-Pay Unrecorded Leave<br />

Student teachers must complete at least three months <strong>of</strong> service and<br />

are not on no-pay leave to meet the eligibility for this leave. Student<br />

teachers can be granted this leave from the day he/she starts work<br />

but if he/she leaves the service before completing three months <strong>of</strong><br />

service, MOE shall recover from the student teacher the salary for<br />

any such leave taken.<br />

Marriage Leave<br />

Student teachers may apply for up to 3 consecutive days on the<br />

occasion <strong>of</strong> their first marriage. Marriage leave must be taken within<br />

one year from the solemnisation <strong>of</strong> their marriage.<br />

Paternity Leave<br />

For birth <strong>of</strong> child before 1 Jan 2013:<br />

Married male student teachers may be granted full-pay unrecorded<br />

leave for 3 consecutive calendar days each on the occasion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

birth <strong>of</strong> their first four children (including legally adopted and stepchildren),<br />

to be taken within 6 months from the birth <strong>of</strong> the child. This<br />

is provided that they are not on no-pay leave at the time <strong>of</strong> taking the<br />

leave.<br />

For birth <strong>of</strong> child on or after 1 Jan 2013:<br />

Married male student teachers may apply up to 1 week* <strong>of</strong> leave for<br />

each occasion for all births (including legally adopted and stepchildren),<br />

to be taken within 12 months from the birth <strong>of</strong> the child.<br />

This is provided they are not on no-pay leave at the time <strong>of</strong> taking the<br />

leave.<br />
