Establishment<br />
The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education (<strong>NIE</strong>) was established on 1 July<br />
1991 as an institute <strong>of</strong> the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).<br />

Objectives<br />
• to equip teachers and school leaders with the knowledge<br />
and pr<strong>of</strong>essional expertise necessary to teach and manage<br />
educational programmes in challenging school environments<br />
• to provide academic programmes at all levels in Education,<br />
Physical Education and Sports Science, the Arts and<br />
Sciences<br />
• to undertake and promote research in Education, Physical<br />
Education and Sports Science, the Arts and Sciences, and<br />
other disciplines relevant to teacher training<br />
• to <strong>of</strong>fer continuing education and pr<strong>of</strong>essional development<br />
programmes to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> other government bodies<br />
and the <strong>general</strong> public.<br />
