Sports and Games Facilities<br />

<strong>National</strong> <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong> Education (<strong>NIE</strong>) physical education complex is a<br />

teaching facility and is covered under the Ministry <strong>of</strong> Manpower<br />

(MOM) Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSH Act) since<br />

September 2011. The Act relates to management <strong>of</strong> health and<br />

safety at work requiring a risk assessment to be undertaken to<br />

identify the hazards and take necessary steps to reduce the risk <strong>of</strong><br />

an incident. All users <strong>of</strong> the sports facilities will be required to adhere<br />

with the Safety Rules and Regulations governing the appropriate use<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Sports and Games Facilities. Users will be briefed on the<br />

Emergency Procedures in the event <strong>of</strong> an incident.<br />

There are outdoor and indoor sports facilities at the <strong>Institute</strong>’s<br />

physical education complex. Outdoor facilities include an artificial<br />

turf hockey pitch, a teaching pool, four tennis courts, two sepak<br />

takraw courts, one handball court for handball, netball and futsal and<br />

three covered outdoor courts which can be used for basketball,<br />

tennis, netball and volleyball. As for indoor sports, there are five<br />

squash courts and a large multipurpose sports hall which can<br />

accommodate several activities. There is a fully-equipped weighttraining<br />

facility, cardiovascular training facility and a studio for<br />

dance. Users <strong>of</strong> the Cardiovascular and Resistance Training Rooms<br />

are required to purchase their own TGS key for the exercise<br />

machines and attend an orientation briefing by the Gym supervisor.<br />

All facilities are meant for teaching purposes but can be booked for<br />

recreation outside the teaching schedule, on an approval basis.<br />
