The door suddenly opens and Kate and Joey come in. Joey<br />
runs into his bedroom, without even saying hello, clearly<br />
upset. The door slams shut.<br />
Ben, still on the phone, looks on as Kate goes inside her<br />
bedroom and shuts her door behind her.<br />
INT. ELLIOT AND KATE’S APT, KITCHEN - NIGHT<br />
A tense dinner at the Hull home tonight. The family is<br />
sitting around the table, their plates empty after<br />
dinner. Ben is the only one still eating. It’s only<br />
pasta, but having his right arm on a sling and trying to<br />
use the left hand only doesn’t help.<br />
ELLIOT<br />
This is the last thing I expected<br />
from you, Joey. The last thing.<br />
You’re not a boy anymore, you’re a<br />
man. You’re lucky this happened in<br />
high school, so the principal can<br />
call your mother. In the real<br />
world, you would’ve gone to jail.<br />
JOEY<br />
But I didn’t steal anything.<br />
A cell phone rings. It’s Elliot’s, and he picks it up.<br />
ELLIOT<br />
(on the cell)<br />

KATE<br />
Ben, some more water<br />
Yes, please.<br />
BEN<br />
Kate serves Ben water, then herself. For a long moment,<br />
there’s silence at dinner. Ben is slowly eating his food,<br />
Joey plays with his fork, and Kate is observing Elliot,<br />
who listens to the caller on the other end of the line.<br />
