MATAI, MIRO, TAWA, AND TOTARA HALLS<br />
SERVICES AND FACILITIES<br />
LOCATION / ADDRESS Turitea, Rehab Road.<br />
COMMUNITY Caters for age range 18 <strong>to</strong> early 20s.<br />
AVAILABILITY Rooms available for full semester periods.<br />
Prioritised for students new <strong>to</strong> study at <strong>Massey</strong>.<br />
ROOMS 50 single rooms in each hall.<br />
EACH BEDROOM HAS King-single bed and bed linen,<br />
noticeboard, wardrobe, heating, study chair, desk, shelving,<br />
rubbish bin.<br />
EACH HALL HAS Common room, one shower and one<br />
<strong>to</strong>ilet per four residents, kitchen with snack-making<br />
facilities, laundry facilities, plasma TV and Sky connection,<br />
recreation facilities (Kanuka/Karaka).<br />
KANUKA AND KARAKA COMMONS In addition <strong>to</strong> their<br />
own common room, each hall has access <strong>to</strong> a shared large<br />
common building - Kanuka and Karaka. There are two<br />
shared laundries with washing machines and dryers. There<br />
is a large common area with a large plasma screen, TV/Sky<br />
connection, kitchen facilities and computer lab.<br />
TECHNOLOGY SERVICES Both Kanuka and Karaka<br />
commons have mini computer labs with eight universitynetworked<br />
computers and printer. Very close <strong>to</strong> the<br />
undergraduate and postgraduate computer labs on<br />
campus. Telephone line in each room. A broadband<br />
Internet connection is available at a cost <strong>to</strong> the resident**.<br />
SUPPORT Two Residential Advisers per 50 students.<br />
<strong>Accommodation</strong> Services oversee community wellbeing<br />
and social activities. Short walk <strong>to</strong> free on-campus student<br />
services including Medical Centre, Student Counselling<br />
and Centre for Teaching and Learning.<br />
SECURITY All rooms have door locks, exterior doors have<br />
swipe-card access for residents only. 24-hour security staff<br />
patrol campus and are available for assistance.<br />
MEALS These halls are catered halls, and a meal package<br />
is incorporated in the accommodation fees.<br />

TRANSPORT One-minute walk <strong>to</strong> central bus s<strong>to</strong>p on<br />
campus, regular free bus service <strong>to</strong> the city and between<br />
Turitea and Hokowhitu campuses. Additional free bus<br />
service <strong>to</strong> and from the city on Thursday and Saturday<br />
nights.<br />
PARKING Limited secure parking available in the Workshop<br />
Road and Matai carparks, with back-up parking in the<br />
Orchard Road carpark. The cost is $80 per semester, plus a<br />
$20 refundable bond*.<br />
STUDY-RELATED SERVICES Study groups for specific first<br />
year papers. Close <strong>to</strong> Centre for Teaching and Learning,<br />
Library, Fale Pasifika and Kāinga Rua support services.<br />
SPORT, LEISURE AND CULTURE Regular inter- and intra-hall<br />
social, cultural and sporting activities. Close <strong>to</strong> Library,<br />
Music and Performance Room, International Community<br />
Centre, Recreation Centre, sports fields and courts, and<br />
short walk <strong>to</strong> all-weather athletic track and Equestrian<br />
Centre.<br />

**All rooms have data points installed which connect <strong>to</strong> InspireNet (ISP). Cables<br />
and access cards (supplied by InspireNet) for these data points are available at the<br />
Residential Services Office.<br />
*<strong>2013</strong> rate <strong>to</strong> be confirmed.<br />
Please note that Matai Hall is under a 31 week contract arrangement. This means that<br />
students will have <strong>to</strong> shift out of their rooms during the mid-semester breaks (April and<br />
August), 2 weeks each and at semester break (June-July) 3 weeks.<br />
