Andy Yerkovich Memorial prize winners on the day.
On Sunday 3rd January 2010 the Kaitaia Gun Club held the Andy
Yerkovich Memorial 100 Single Rise shoot. The weather was
overcast with a hint of rain at the start, but remained fine with a
strong northerly for the last round which tested some shooters in
qualifying and shoot offs.
Shooters turned up from all over the North Island and even
the USA. We finished up with 9 squads (46 shooters) which is a
good muster for our far north club, even though resources were
stretched the usual welcome and complimentary seafood lunch
was evident. What a great lunch. All the seafood you could eat,
well prepared and presented by Robbie and all his helpers. It was
noted that some shooters even had seconds; that could have been
a mistake, as the results show except for the HOA, he might be a
hungry shooter in more ways than one.
Many thanks to all the willing helpers, and Ruth and Anne
in the office, for a great shoot, not forgetting our hard working
president, Mark, who makes all this happen.
On to the results.
After two short shoot offs which will not be dwelt on, suffice to
say A grade went to 3 targets (refer to lunch). HOA Grant Nilsson
PHOTOGRAPHY GOLDEN RULES
KNOW YOUR CAMERA
time again. It’s boring. Magazines are judged by the quality
of their photographic presentation. Change angles to provide
variations. Take shots from a crouching or alternatively elevated
(stand on a chair) position. Have the winner standing and second
and third sitting vary the distance and vary the background.
• Change the format: In instances when same person is presenting
all the prizes eliminate the prize presenter when taking multiple
photographs. focus on the prize winner/s. One shot that includes
the presenter is adequate. Take landscape photos to groups and
vertical photos to single persons.
• Take control: Assert your authority. People expect to be
managed when it comes to publicity photographs. You have
the responsibility of presenting people to advantage and your
efforts will be applauded when the recipients see the end results
in Gunshot. Talk to the prize presenter prior to the photography
and inform him of your requirements.
• Take the time to get a good result!
