Criteria for the Academy Awards
Of Lionism 2007-2008(MD-4)
District Governors will be responsible for forwarding
nominations to the MD-4 Nominations Committee for
the following categories (Deadline 11/1/2008):
●Greatest Number of New Clubs by a Member (July
1, 2007 – June 30, 2008)
●Greatest Number of New Members by a Member
(July 1,2007 – June 30, 2008)
●Most Significant Service Project of the Year (Small
Club – less than 30 members) – “hands on” in nature
and for which members turn out to do physical labor or
service for the betterment of someone in their
community. Should not be a club fundraiser. Previous
winners in this category not eligible. (July 1, 2007 –
June 30, 2008)
●Most Significant Service Project of the Year
(Large Club) – see above.
●Most Outstanding Project of the Year (Small Club
– less than 30 members) – “signature project” for which
club is renowned. Amount of money spent can be
considered and project could be fundraiser. Previous
winners in this category not eligible. (July 1, 2007 –
June 30, 2008)
●Most Outstanding Project of the Year (Large Club)
Same as above.
●Lion of the Year for Multiple District – service to
club &/or District level and above. All Lions in good
standing with MD-4 are eligible. (July 1, 2007 – June
30, 2008)
●Lioness of the Year for the Multiple District
●Leo of the Year for the Multiple District – (July 1,
2007 – June 30, 2008) Consideration should be given
to service and accomplishments outside of Leos as
well as participation in Leos Clubs activities. All Leos
in good standing with MD-4 are eligible.
●The Donald E. Banker Campership Award – The
Lion selected will have demonstrated extraordinary
effort, either over many years or during the current one,
in enhancing the success of one or more of our youth
camps. This would include any camps that the Multiple
District or any sub-district maintain and directly support.
●The Kay and Denise Fukushima Couple of the
Year Award – A couple selected by their District
governor will have shown exemplary leadership on
behalf of the District and Multiple District, based on the
theme, “One World, One Heart”. Service through the
years should be considered, not just during the current
year. A couple receiving this award could consist of a
Lion and significant other who does not have to be a
Lion.

Lions Day with the United Nations:
To celebrate the historical relationship between Lions
and the United Nations, plan to attend the 31 st Annual
Lions Day with the UN to be held Friday, March 13,
2009 in New York City. (UN Public Building, First
Ave. at 46 th Street)
Highlights of the daylong program include:
●presentations by UN speakers;
●an appearance by the Secretary-General of the UN;
●awards ceremony for the grand prize winner of the
Lions International Peace Poster Contest;
●a special luncheon with UN ambassadors;
●presentation of Lions-UNICEF School-in-a-Box
banner patch awards;
●an optional tour of the UN building.
Registration and security begins at 9 AM.
Lions Day with the UN program begins at 10 AM.
Day Program and lunch with ambassadors $110/adult.
Day program only $60/adult
Deadline for application and money is February 6,
2009 to Lions Clubs International.
(This is the last year at the UN for awhile as they will
be doing renovation.)

WITH UN AMBASSADORS. AFTER THESE ARE
RESERVED THERE WILL BE A WAITING LIST.

Registration is available online – it is convenient and
easy to use. You can also use online registration to
book a room at your delegation hotel. Your
convention registration and hotel reservation are
confirmed immediately via e-mail. Check the
convention pages online frequently for updated
information about convention events and logistics
information.●
Editorial “Thoughts”
Well as you can see I have
learned how to put photos
in this time. Hopefully I did
not get too carried away. It
is like a new toy! However it
may take you awhile to download the newsletter.
I get to take the 3 rd class of the series on computers
that I started last quarter, at the end of this
month. Looking forward to it.
Am still looking for more information from the
clubs – can be newsletters, or activity reports.
Also if you have an activity to report try to get it in
as early as you can to get it on the calendar. If
you have digital pictures to share with the district,
please send those. I can’t promise to print them.
