Krister Asplund, Master Distiller
Absolut Elyx
– craftsmanshIp, wheat and a bIt of magIc
In thIs day and age, as consumers emphasIze on qualIty and sustaInabIlIty, It’s no surprIse to fInd
more locally produced goods on your cornershop’s shelves. absolut elyx Is a perfect example.
not only the fInest release from absolut vodka to date, It also reIntroduces a close-to-home way
of producIng vodka, connectIng back to the very early days of the Åhus-based dIstIllery.
In the world of whisky, the distillers have always
held their copper stills high – every dent and scratch
remains untouched to keep the character of the spirit
intact. Vodka distillers might work in a slightly different
way with their continuous distillation stills, but under the
guidance of master distiller Krister Asplund, the old copper
still at the picturesque Åhus Distillery in the south of
Sweden has been reinstated and put to use again. The result:
Absolut Elyx, a hand-distilled single-batch vodka with an
unprecedented quality and meticulous attention to detail.
Absolut Vodka is produced using wheat from 200 farmers in
the southern region of Sweden. For the making of Absolut
Elyx, Eric Bäckstedt, in charge of Råbelöf estate, was
chosen to deliver its winter-wheat. Sharing Absolut’s goals
for a sustainable farming and green energy policy, Råbelöf
were big enough to be reliable farmers, but small enough to
have a close relation to the team at Absolut.
– When we finished this year’s batch of Absolut Elyx,
not only was it a single-estate vodka; it just so happened
that all the wheat we used was from one single field as well,
