assumed command of the NATO International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and U.S. Forces<br />

Afghanistan (USFOR-A) July 4, 2010.<br />

About the Baccalaureate Speaker<br />

A baccalaureate service will be held in recognition of the graduates at 10:30 a.m. in Reeves<br />

Auditorium. The Rev. Dr. Thomas S. Yow III ’66 will deliver the baccalaureate sermon. A graduate of<br />

<strong>Methodist</strong> College (now <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>) and former president of the Student Government Association,<br />

the Rev. Dr. Yow went on to earn a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Education from Duke <strong>University</strong>. He<br />

recently retired from serving as the president of the United <strong>Methodist</strong> Foundation in Nashville, Tenn. Prior to<br />

his appointment with the United <strong>Methodist</strong> Foundation, he served as president of Young Harris College in<br />

Georgia. Before his 13-year tenure with Young Harris College, he served as president of Martin <strong>Methodist</strong><br />

College in Pulaski, Tennessee. A recipient of the <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Alumni Association’s Outstanding<br />

Alumnus Award and Outstanding Alumni Service Award, the Rev. Dr. Yow also served as <strong>Methodist</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong>’s director of admissions and financial aid for four years.<br />

<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Graduates<br />

There are presently 199 candidates for 206 degrees. The following United States Army R.O.T.C.<br />

cadets will be commissioned during the ceremony: Mysty Applegate, Yvonne Basco, Valerie Burton, Joseph<br />

Hernandez, and Jason Trudell. In a custom inaugurated at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 1985, graduating student<br />

Milca Baptista will present to Dr. Hancock the flag of her country, East Timor, and Pedro Massinga will<br />

present the flag of Mozambique. The flags and a list of their donors are permanently displayed in the Berns<br />

Student Center.<br />
