FAYETTEVILLE, NC—<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s Legal Studies Program approved by American<br />
Bar Association.<br />
The process to receive American Bar Association Approval has taken about three years to<br />
complete. A self study had to be submitted. It was return several months later with corrections and<br />
updates. The money for the ABA approval was donated by Mr. Robert Dunn, <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> ’70<br />
and the university’s Board of Advisors for the Legal Studies program. His daughters, Diane Dunn Jones<br />
’01 and Leslie Dunn ’05 graduated from the university. Diane graduated with the Legal Studies minor.<br />
In January 2011, a site team was sent from the American Bar Association to ensure that the Legal<br />
Studies Program at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> meet the requirements for approval. They spent three days on<br />
campus meeting with the Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of School of Public Affairs, Career Services,<br />
Director of Library Services, and alumni of the program and current students.<br />
The education committee recommended to the House of Delegates for the American Bar<br />
Association that the Legal Studies program at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> be approved. At the Annual<br />
conference for the American Bar Association in August the House of Delegates approved the Legal<br />
Studies program for American Bar Association Approval.<br />
The effort to gain approval was led by Wendy Vonnegut, Esq., Director of Legal Studies at<br />
<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />
