ASSESSING ATTACHMENT DISORDERS<br />
• Attachment disorders are the result of parenting difficulties due to issues such as<br />
separation from parents, loss of caregivers, abuse or neglect, or unresponsive caregiving.<br />
Some of the signs of a possible attachment disorder may include some of the following:<br />
Unpredictable behaviour<br />
Bullying behaviour or being a victim of bullying<br />
Poor social skills<br />
Aggressive behaviour with other children<br />
Low frustration tolerance and self control<br />
Very disorganized and disoriented in approach to problems<br />
Frightened both when away from and with caregivers<br />
Contradictory behaviour<br />
Fear, generalized anxiety and sadness<br />
Signs of dissociation or staring into space and not paying attention to what is going<br />
on<br />
Lack of resilience and easily upset in response to challenging situations<br />
Lack of problem solving or ability to ask for assistance; easily giving up or becoming<br />
very angry<br />
Lack of empathy for others and sociopathic tendencies<br />
Difficulty making friends and trusting other people<br />
Frequent tantrums and difficulty regulating difficult emotions<br />
Emotionless with little pleasure or pain shown in reaction to events that happen<br />
