SECTION 15415<br />

RAINWATER HARVESTING<br />

PART 1 - GENERAL<br />

1.1 Provide a rainwater harvesting system as shown on Drawing P4.3 and described within this<br />

specification and specification section 02815. The system shall be <strong>of</strong> an approved design as<br />

fabricated by a manufacturer regularly engaged in <strong>the</strong> production <strong>of</strong> rainwater treatment<br />

equipment. All equipment and material shall be supplied in compliance with <strong>the</strong> specifications as<br />

intended for a complete and operational system. All equipment shall be provided by one supplier<br />

who will provide installation instruction and be available for on-site installation support.<br />

1.2 The rainwater system is intended for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> collecting rainwater from <strong>the</strong> ro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

building, filtering it, storing <strong>the</strong> filtered water in storage tanks, and preparing this water for<br />

subsequent use as supply water for toilet flushing and irrigation.<br />

1.3 Only qualified manufacturers <strong>of</strong> rain water conditioning systems shall be considered for this<br />

project. Acceptable manufacturers are Water Harvesting Solutions, Inc. (Wahaso).<br />

PART 2 - GENERAL DESCRIPTION<br />

2.1 The rainwater storage shall be located below grade utilizing tanks with a total volume <strong>of</strong> 20,000<br />

gallons and includes a level sensor to indicate level and volume <strong>of</strong> stored water and a sump pump<br />

to send water to a day tank located in <strong>the</strong> building.<br />

2.2 Incoming water from ro<strong>of</strong> collection shall pass through a Vortex Filter to remove debris before<br />

entering <strong>the</strong> below grade level storage tanks.<br />

2.3 A level control in <strong>the</strong> day tank shall cause <strong>the</strong> sump pump to replenish <strong>the</strong> day tank on demand.<br />

2.4 A variable speed multi-stage pump shall provide flow to <strong>the</strong> toilet flushing system on demand as<br />

specified below. The pump discharge shall pass through a filter before being sent to <strong>the</strong> toilet<br />

distribution headers.<br />

2.5 The system shall include a master control system with <strong>the</strong> capability <strong>of</strong> interfacing with <strong>Building</strong><br />

Automation System as well as provide data logging capability <strong>of</strong> key water collection and use<br />

parameters.<br />
