General Information<br />
Academic Senate<br />
The <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> Academic Senate is the faculty organization empowered by state law to represent<br />
the full-time faculty in all professional and academic matters. The Senate President is an official<br />
representative at meetings of the Governing Board, at the district Chancellor's Consultation Council and<br />
at the college Administrative Council.<br />
The organization, procedures and activities of the Academic Senate, its officers, and its members are<br />
governed by its Constitution and Bylaws. The Academic Senate Council includes representatives from<br />
instructional and student services departments, as well as the Senate's elected officers. The Academic<br />
Senate (either directly or through the committees that report to it) considers the following academic<br />
and professional matters:<br />
1. Curriculum, (including establishing prerequisites and places courses within disciplines)<br />
2. Degree and certificate requirements<br />
3. Grading policies<br />
4. Educational program development<br />
5. Standards or policies regarding student preparation and success<br />
6. District and college governance structures, as related to faculty roles<br />
7. <strong>Faculty</strong> roles and involvement in accreditation processes, including self-study and annual<br />
reports<br />
8. Policies for faculty professional development activities<br />
9. Processes for program review<br />
10. Processes for institutional planning and budget development<br />
11. Other academic and professional matters as mutually agreed upon between the Governing<br />
Board and the Academic Senate<br />
