determining the amount and character of work done outside it. When considering the<br />
interruption or termination of their service, professors recognize the effect of their decision upon<br />
the program of the institution and give due notice of their intentions.<br />
5. As members of their community, professors have the rights and obligations of other citizens.<br />
Professors measure the urgency of these obligations in the light of their responsibilities to their<br />
subject, to their students, to their profession, and to their institution. When they speak or act as<br />
private persons, they avoid creating the impression of speaking or acting for their college or<br />
university. As citizens engaged in a profession that depends upon freedom for its health and<br />
integrity, professors have a particular obligation to promote conditions of free inquiry and to<br />
further public understanding of academic freedom.<br />
The Board of Trustees has also adopted a district employee code of ethics. This code of ethics states:<br />
<strong>Ventura</strong> county Community <strong>College</strong> District employees are guided by principles that call for the respect of<br />
students, citizens, state policy makers, and the educational community at large. This Code of Ethics<br />
demonstrates to the public that our educational community has a vested interest in advancing the<br />
reputation and goodwill of the District and higher education.<br />
Employees of the District:<br />
Will abide by the Code of Ethics and adhere to its principles.<br />
Will abide by the District’s procedures and adopted policies as listed on the District website.<br />
Will use established channels of communication within the District.<br />
Will conduct themselves in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and codes.<br />
Will be familiar with Administrative Procedure 7700-Whistleblower Protections.<br />
Will be committed to acting with integrity and will be accountable for their actions.<br />
<strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> Promise Program<br />
The <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> Promise is a program sponsored by the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> Foundation that is<br />
designed:<br />

To remove the economic barriers to education for graduating high school seniors<br />
To improve the college-going rate in the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> service area<br />
To enhance the quality of the workforce in the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> service area<br />
Through the program, the Foundation promises that current year <strong>Ventura</strong> County high school graduates,<br />
regardless of family income, will have their enrollment fees covered during their first year of attendance<br />
at <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong>. This same promise is extended to students who have successfully completed their<br />
GED requirements or who have completed the coursework for high school during the current year, but<br />
have not yet passed their exit exam. Expenses covered by the <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> Promise include the perunit<br />
cost of classes, the Health fee and the Student Center fee.<br />
Approximately 1,000 students per year attend <strong>Ventura</strong> <strong>College</strong> on the Promise program. To qualify, the<br />
<strong>Ventura</strong> County applicant must:<br />
