771st Troop Command
The 771st Troop Command Battalion
and its Headquarters Detachment provided
command and control, operational oversight,
logistical planning and personnel/administrative
support for the 3664th Support Maintenance
Company, 1257th Transportation Company,
249th Army Band, 753rd Explosive Ordnance
Disposal Detachment and 153rd Public Affairs
Detachment.
Several units within
the 771st underwent force
structure reorganization,
changes in operational
mission, and supported
other West Virginia Army
Guard deployments with
volunteers. Training Year
2008 was a positive year
for the 771st, filled with
deployment missions,
increasing readiness of
deploying units, new mission training and
growth.
The 3664th Surface Maintenance
Company was honored by the National
Maintenance Training Center at Camp Dodge,
Iowa, with the
Superior Unit
Training Award.
The center
recognized the
3664th as the
most outstanding
unit at which
to train the
previous year.
The Department
of the Army
also officially awarded the 3664th the
Operation Iraqi Freedom battle streamer for
the unit’s deployment to Iraq. Additionally,
the Command Logistics and Review Team
(CLRT) recommended the 3664th compete for
the Phillip A. Connelly Award for food service
excellence, and the Unit Supply Excellence
Award for outstanding performance during the
last CLRT inspection. The unit, which stands at
98 percent strength, provided over 20 volunteers
for deployments with other West Virginia Army
Guard units.
The 1257th Transportation Company
continued the Decontamination Element mission
for the National Guard’s Chemical, Biological,
Radiological,
Nuclear and High
Yield Explosive
Emergency
Response Force
(CERF) Team.
The CERF Team
completed one major
exercise in August to
maintain proficiency
and certification.
The Command
Logistics and
Review Team (CLRT) also recommended the
1257th compete for the Unit Supply Excellence
Award for outstanding performance during the
last CLRT inspection. The 1257th continues to
increase its readiness after redeployment from
Iraq with re-focused training in
core motor transport operations
at the individual, crew and squad
levels. In addition, the unit, which
stands at 82 percent strength, also
provided volunteer soldiers for
other deploying Army Guard units.
The 249th Army Band conducted
42 performances across the state
this year. The active duty Army
and Navy specifically requested
the 249th to perform for several
Change of Command ceremonies, including the
200th Military Police Command at Fort Meade,
Md., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in
Wilmington, N.C., and the USS West Virginia.
The 249th also backfilled the 82nd Airborne
Division Band at Ft. Bragg, N.C., while at
Annual Training in July.
