197 th Regiment (Regional Training Institute)
In Training Year 2008, the 197th
Regiment (RTI-WV) trained 630 National Guard
and Reserve soldiers from
30 states with a graduation
percentage of 97%. This
shows a continued growth
from TY-07 of 38 soldiers,
and an increase of 2% in
graduation rate.
The 197th Regiment
offers the following
Courses: Noncommissioned
Officer Education System
(NCOES), Military
Occupation Specialty
(MOS), Officer Candidate
School (OCS), Combat Lifesaver Course
(CLC), Company Level Pre-Command Course
but three 21E instructors supported California
and South Carolina RTI’s with 21E10 MOS-T
schools. 21E10
instructors also
conducted two
21J10 Crane/
SEE Courses for
North Dakota.
This course was
designed for
instructors from
Louisiana, South
Carolina and West
Virginia. Our
Military Police
and NCOES
Schools received
FULL ACCREDITATION with NCOES
receiving recommendation for a School of
Excellence.
Fifty years have come and gone
for the Officer Candidate School (OCS).
From the old West Virginia Military
Academy to the current 197th Regiment
the outcome is always the same --
outstanding young leaders for the West
Virginia National Guard. OCS Class L
graduated five Officer Candidates and
OCS Class LI currently has six officers
who will be commissioned in September
2009.
(CLPCC), Army Basic Instructor Course
(ABIC), and Small Group Instructor (SGI).
Training Year 2008 was challenging
with the additional MOS Courses: 21E10 Heavy
Equipment Operator, 21W10 Carpentry and
Masonry Specialist, 19D10 Cavalry Scout and
our 31B10 Military Police. The 197th Regiment
also cross leveled instructors giving versatility
and flexibility to the number of courses and
soldiers that can be trained simultaneously.
