BUS 214 Word Processing I (3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 111, FST 130, MTH 011 or<br />
instructor’s permission. An introduction to word<br />
processing. Includes application of the basic<br />
functions of the word processor. One hour lab<br />
required.<br />
BUS 216 Word Processing II (3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 214 or instructor’s permission. A<br />
continuation of Word Processing I. Applies basic and<br />
advanced functions of word processing. One hour<br />
laboratory required.<br />
BUS 240 Personal Finance (3)<br />
Prerequisite: MTH 051. Creates an awareness of<br />
personal money management. Particular emphasis on<br />
budgeting, borrowing, purchasing, investing,<br />
insurance, and other financial planning.<br />
BUS 242 Small Business Management (3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 152 or instructor’s permission. An<br />
overview of basic management principles, financing,<br />
accounting, and legal requirements encountered by<br />
modern small businesses. Stresses characteristics of<br />
successful business operations and incorporates the<br />
uniqueness of business enterprises on the Navajo<br />
Nation.<br />
BUS 243 Business Communication (3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 111, BUS 143, ENG 100B or 101,<br />
and. Emphasizes the importance of and skills in oral<br />
and written communication in business, and gives<br />
special attention to proofreading and mechanics of<br />
grammar.<br />
BUS 246 Principles of Management (3)<br />
Introduces vital aspects of supervisory management.<br />
Gives an overview of skills, functions,<br />
communications, employee problems, productivity<br />
management, and legal concerns related to<br />
supervisory tasks.<br />
BUS 251 Financial Accounting<br />
(3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 152 or instructor’s permission.<br />
Introduction to the theory and practice of accounting<br />
in sole proprietorships, partnerships, and<br />
corporations. Emphasis on the accounting cycle,<br />
periodic reporting, receivables, payables, inventories,<br />
and accounting systems. One hour laboratory<br />
required.<br />
BUS 252 Managerial Accounting (3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 251. A continuation of BUS 251<br />
with emphasis on corporations, taxes, investments,<br />
and managerial approaches for decision-making. One<br />
hour laboratory required.<br />
BUS 254 Microcomputing Accounting (3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 152, MTH 011. Fundamentals of<br />
commercial accounting programs used on<br />
microcomputers. Includes installation and use of the<br />
general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts<br />
payable, and payroll.<br />
BUS 260 Finance (3)<br />
Prerequisite: BUS 251 and MTH 110 or concurrent.<br />
An orientation to Business Finances as used in<br />
modern businesses and their relationship to other<br />
business functions; internal financial activities;<br />
sources of funds and the firm’s involvement with<br />
money and capital markets. Review of stock<br />
exchanges, mutual funds and other capital<br />
investment.<br />
BUS 272 Marketing (3)<br />
An orientation to basic marketing concepts and<br />
practices. Topics include the impact of external<br />
forces on marketing decisions especially marketing<br />
on the Internet, marketing strategies, marketing<br />
aspects of business ethics, and social responsibilities<br />
and global marketing.<br />
BUS 280 Computers in Business (3)<br />
Prerequisite: Basic typing skills or instructor’s<br />
permission. Use of microcomputers in the business<br />
world. Emphasizes use of software for processing<br />
business data, such as word processing, spreadsheets,<br />
database, and power-point. One-hour laboratory<br />
required.<br />
Chemistry (CHM)<br />
CHM 130 Fundamental Chemistry (4)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 100B, FST 131, and MTH 051 or<br />
instructor’s permission. A survey of modern<br />
chemistry and the relationship of chemical principles<br />
to familiar aspects of living, including topics relevant<br />
to Navajo culture. Discusses theories of atoms,<br />
molecules, chemical bonds, chemical reactivity,<br />
solutions, and the chemical basis of life. Suitable for<br />
allied health and education majors. Three hours of<br />
lecture and three hours of laboratory per week.
