MTH 213 Statistics (4)<br />

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" in MTH 110 or<br />

MTH 114 or instructor’s permission. Cross listed<br />

with PSY 213. Representation of data, measures of<br />

central tendency, standard deviation, sampling, the<br />

normal, chi-square, student’s T and F distributions,<br />

and regression and correlation. Basic concepts of<br />

experimental design and statistic analysis involved in<br />

quantitative research.<br />

MTH 220 Calculus III (4)<br />

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" in MTH 192 or<br />

instructor’s permission. Vector analysis,<br />

differentiation and integral calculus of several<br />

variables with applications. Four hours lecture and<br />

three hours workshop per week.<br />

MTH 221 Ordinary Differential Equations (3)<br />

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" in MTH 192 or<br />

instructor’s permission. First order differential<br />

equations, applications, higher order differential<br />

equations, numerical methods, with applications in<br />

physical, biological and Social and Behavioral<br />

Sciences.<br />

MTH 225 Elementary Linear Algebra (3)<br />

Prerequisites: MTH 110 or instructor’s permission.<br />

An introductory course for all sciences, engineering,<br />

and mathematics education majors. Topics include<br />

matrices, system of linear equations, determinants,<br />

vector spaces, linear transformations, and<br />

eigenvalues.<br />

Navajo Language (NAV)<br />

NAV 101 Navajo as a Second Language I (4)<br />

For non-Navajo speakers. Aimed at mastery of<br />

pronunciation, identification of sounds, thought<br />

patterns, and vocabulary. Students learn simple<br />

Navajo conversation. An individual, one-hour<br />

conversational practice workshop is mandatory for<br />

each class session. The course emphasizes the<br />

general education special requirement of<br />

ethnic/race/gender awareness (ERG).<br />

NAV 102 Navajo as a Second Language II (4)<br />

Prerequisite: NAV 101. Mastery of simple sentences.<br />

Combination of simple sentences with more complex<br />

sentences. Enlarging of vocabulary through oral<br />

exercises. An individual, one-hour conversational<br />

practice workshop is mandatory for each class<br />

session. The course emphasizes the general education<br />

special requirement of ethnic/race/gender awareness<br />

(ERG).<br />

NAV 201 Intermediate Navajo for Non-Native<br />

Speakers (4)<br />

Prerequisite: NAV 102. Third-semester course for<br />

non-native speakers. Students review the material<br />

taught in NAV 101 and 102 and proceed to more<br />

advanced structures, situations, vocabulary, and<br />

functions. An individual, one-hour conversational<br />

practice workshop is mandatory for each class<br />

session.<br />

NAV 202 Advanced Intermediate Navajo for Non-<br />

Native Speakers (4)<br />

Prerequisite: NAV 201. Fourth-semester course for<br />

non-native speakers. Students review material from<br />

NAV 101, 102, and 201, and then proceed to more<br />

advanced structures, situations, functions and<br />

grammar. An individual, one-hour conversational<br />

practice workshop is mandatory for each class<br />

session.<br />

NAV 211 Navajo Literacy for Speakers I (3)<br />

For Navajo speakers. Designed to develop skills in<br />

reading and writing Navajo, as well as an<br />

understanding of the language and its sounds and<br />

structure. The course emphasizes the general<br />

education special requirement of ethnic/race/gender<br />

awareness (ERG).<br />

NAV 212 Navajo Literacy and Grammar for<br />

Speakers II (3)<br />

Prerequisite: NAV 211. For Navajo speakers.<br />

Develops additional skills in reading and writing<br />

Navajo. Emphasis on grammatical structure. The<br />

course emphasizes the general education special<br />

requirement of ethnic/race/gender awareness (ERG).<br />

NAV 231 Medical Terminology of the Navajo (3)<br />

Prerequisite: NAV 101 or NAV 211. Translation and<br />

use of medical terminology from English to Navajo<br />

and Navajo to English.<br />

NAV 287 Navajo Transcription (3)<br />

Prerequisite: NAV 212. Interpretation, translation,<br />

and transcription of raw materials gathered from<br />

interviews, ceremonies, speeches, storytelling, and<br />

other contexts. Stresses the development of<br />

vocabulary including specialized terminology and<br />

concepts.<br />

NAV 289 Navajo Linguistics (3)<br />

Prerequisite: NAV 212. Introductory linguistics<br />

course covering basic concepts in sociolinguistics,<br />

psycholinguistics, syntax, phonology and<br />

morphology. Navajo is used for concrete<br />

exemplification.
