EGR 111 Introduction to Engineering (2)<br />
Prerequisite: MTH 100 or equivalent. A broad survey<br />
of the various fields of engineering and an in-depth<br />
look at the disciplines of study needed to pursue a<br />
career in engineering. Particular attention to<br />
measurement and calculation with an introduction to<br />
computing and the BASIC programming language.<br />
EGR 116 Plane Surveying (2)<br />
Prerequisite: MTH 111. Instruction in the usage of<br />
the engineer’s tape, transit, level, and methods of<br />
recording data in note form. Includes transverse<br />
layouts and computation.<br />
EGR 121 Technical Drafting (3)<br />
Covers drafting and the preparation of drawings.<br />
EGR 141 Solar and Alternative Energies (3)<br />
Defines energy and discusses the historical<br />
development and use of natural energies, the energy<br />
crisis, our energy-dependent society, and alternate<br />
sources with a major focus on solar energy.<br />
EGR 217 Engineering Statistics (3)<br />
Prerequisite: MTH 111, MTH 191, and PHY 121. An<br />
introduction to the equilibrium of particles and rigid<br />
bodies. Also discusses friction, centroids, moments of<br />
inertia, trusses, and virtual work.<br />
EGR 218 Engineering Dynamics (3)<br />
Prerequisite: EGR 217 and MTH 220. Topics include<br />
kinematics and dynamics of particles and rigid<br />
bodies, concepts of energy and work, impulse, and<br />
momentum.<br />

ENG 100A Communication Workshop I (3)<br />
Prerequisite: FST 133 or placement test. This course<br />
develops writing ability through writing process<br />
strategies and work on basic grammar skills.<br />
Narrative and descriptive writing are emphasized. (IP<br />
grade applicable.)<br />
ENG 100B Communication Workshop II (3)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 100A or placement test. Using a<br />
mixture of teaching strategies, this course develops<br />
the ability to communicate in writing. Elements of<br />
expository prose are emphasized. Basic grammar and<br />
sentence structures are covered as necessary. (IP<br />
grade applicable.)<br />
ENG 101 Freshman English I (3)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 100B or placement test.<br />
Emphasizes critical reading and writing as a method<br />
to develop necessary college level communication<br />
skills. One guided research paper is required.<br />
ENG 102 Freshman English II (3)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 101 with a grade of C or greater.<br />
Emphasizes development of critical, analytical and<br />
argumentative skills through reading, writing and<br />
discussion. Continues research writing and requires<br />
one research paper.<br />
ENG 121 Speech Communication (3)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 101 and FST 131. A study of<br />
principles, cultural dimensions, and techniques of<br />
public speaking. Students prepare and present<br />
speeches.<br />
ENG 131 Reading and Writing for Special Purposes<br />
(3)<br />
Prerequisite: FST 131 and ENG 100B. This course<br />
introduces students to techniques of reading and<br />
analyzing materials. Addresses topics of current<br />
public interest. Emphasizes reading, note taking,<br />
summarizing, and reporting.<br />

Prerequisite: ENG 101. Instruction in writing and<br />
analysis of proposals, technical descriptions and<br />
articles, manuals and reports, and business letters.<br />
ENG 212 Creative Writing: Poetry (3)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 101 or concurrent enrollment. An<br />
introduction to techniques of writing poetry.<br />
Introduces forms, elements of poetry, and the creative<br />
writing process.<br />
ENG 213 Creative Writing: Short Fiction (3)<br />
Prerequisite: ENG 101 or concurrent enrollment. This<br />
course is an introduction to the writing of short<br />
fiction. Emphasizes the elements of short fiction.<br />

Prerequisite: ENG 102. Study of poetry, short<br />
stories, drama, essays, and novels from a variety of<br />
perspectives. This course emphasizes the general<br />
education special requirements of intensive<br />
writing/critical thinking and ethnic/gender awareness<br />
