PHY 110 Algebra based Physics I (4)<br />

Prerequisite: MTH 110 or concurrent enrollment or<br />

instructor’s permission. An algebra based<br />

introduction to physics sequence designed for science<br />

majors who do not require calculus based physics.<br />

Also suitable for liberal arts majors and general<br />

education students with no prior physics background;<br />

covers classical mechanics. Trigonometric<br />

requirement will be taught in the class. Three hours<br />

lecture and three hours laboratory per week.<br />

PHY 111 Algebra based Physics II (4)<br />

Prerequisite: PHY 110 or equivalent course. Second<br />

and final of an algebra based introduction to physics<br />

sequence designed for science majors who do not<br />

require calculus based physics. Also suitable for<br />

liberal arts majors and general education student with<br />

no prior physics background; covers optics,<br />

electricity and magnetism. Three hours lecture and<br />

three hours laboratory per week.<br />

PHY 121 Calculus based Physics I (4)<br />

Prerequisite: MTH 191 or instructor’s permission.<br />

First of three sequences of calculus-based courses<br />

designed for the science and engineering major with<br />

no prior physics background; covers classical<br />

mechanics. Three hours lecture and three hours<br />

laboratory per week.<br />

PHY 131 Calculus based Physics II (4)<br />

Prerequisite: PHY 121 and MTH 192 or concurrent<br />

enrollment or equivalent courses. Second of three<br />

sequences of calculus-based courses designed for the<br />

science and engineering major; covers electricity,<br />

magnetism and optics. Three hours lecture and three<br />

hours laboratory per week.<br />

PHY 243 Calculus based Physics III (3)<br />

Prerequisite: PHY 131 and MTH 220 or concurrent<br />

enrollment or equivalent courses. Third and final of a<br />

sequence of calculus-based courses designed for the<br />

science and engineering major; covers<br />

thermodynamics, atomic and nuclear physics. Three<br />

hours lecture per week.<br />

Political Science (POS)<br />

POS 111 Introduction to Political Science (3)<br />

Prerequisite: ENG 101. Examines the principles,<br />

methods, topics, and concepts of political science in<br />

light of contemporary political events. Analyzes<br />

power, authority, and political philosophy in diverse<br />

contexts including tribal politics. Meets teacher<br />

certification requirements. The course emphasizes the<br />

general education special requirements of intensive<br />

writing/critical thinking and ethnic/race/gender and<br />

global awareness (IW/CI, ERG, and GA).<br />

POS 170 American Government and Politics (3)<br />

Prerequisite: ENG 101 or concurrent enrollment or<br />

instructor’s permission. Examines the origin of the<br />

U.S. Constitution as well as governmental structures,<br />

procedures, and politics at the federal, state, local,<br />

and tribal levels.<br />

POS 181 Arizona Constitution and Government (1)<br />

Prerequisite: ENG 101 or concurrent enrollment or<br />

instructor’s permission. Examines the Arizona State<br />

Constitution in terms of its historical roots, content,<br />

modifications, and interpretations. Also examines<br />

Arizona governmental structures, procedures, and<br />

politics at all levels including the Navajo tribal level.<br />

Meets Arizona teacher certification requirements.<br />

POS 226 Navajo Tribal Government (3)<br />

Prerequisite: FST 131, ENG 101 or NIS 221 or<br />

instructor’s permission. Cross listed with NIS 226.<br />

The development of Navajo tribal government<br />

concentrating on its evolution since the 1920's.<br />

Examines the legal and political basis of tribal<br />

government, the structure and functions of tribal<br />

powers and services, fiscal changes, and<br />

administrative growth. Includes political relations,<br />

developments, and transitions related to state and<br />

federal government. Highlights major contributions<br />

of tribal chairmen and presidents. The course<br />

emphasizes the general education special<br />

requirements of intensive writing/critical thinking,<br />

and ethnic/race/gender, and historical awareness<br />

(IW/CI, ERG, and HA).<br />

POS 271 U.S. Constitution and Politics (2)<br />

Prerequisite: ENG 101 or concurrent enrollment or<br />

instructor’s permission. Examines the philosophical<br />

antecedents, historical development, and<br />

interpretations of the U.S. Constitution. Also<br />

examines federal governmental structures,<br />

procedures, and politics. Meets Arizona teacher<br />

certification requirements.<br />

PSY 100A Ethics and Human Services (1)<br />

Prerequisite: ENG 101 or concurrent enrollment or<br />

instructor’s permission. Covers ethics,<br />

confidentiality, non-discrimination, responsibility,<br />

competency, legal and moral standards, client<br />

welfare, client relationships, and professionalism in<br />

the human services.
