Summary: Koken are the stage assistant in Kabuki performance.They are
usualy dressed in black with a face covering to give th eillusion of
invisibility. This documentary is a tribute to their skill and art. The Koken
are responsible for a large variety of tasks such as prop placemet, customs
and sets. They have to remain calm at all times and often must crouch for
long period on the stage without moving. In more stylized drama they
will appear in formal attrie and sometimes can have lines or small voval
parts in s performance. Kabuki has had an infuluence on theater
throughout the world and the role of Koken has been included in overseas
productions. This documentary consists of several interviews with
experienced Koken and Kabuki actors and lots of footage of Kabuki
performances.
