276. Chateau Montrose 2003 St. Estephe, 2eme Cru Classe L. Perrotti-Brown for R. Parker, 96 pts. 05/09 12 bottles (owc) $1,600-2,400 277. Chateau Pape Clement 2005 Pessac Leognan “Probably the greatest Pape-Clement ever made, the dense purplecolored 2005 (a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits sumptuous notes of smoky scorched earth, graphite, melted licorice, and blackberries. Once past the exquisite perfume, the wine reveals full body, extraordinary concentration, plenty of chocolate, smoke, cassis, and blackberry flavors, and that unmistakable volcanic ash-like earthiness that comes from this appellation. The tannins are slightly sweeter than those found in most northern Medocs, but this is still a backward, large-scaled effort that requires 7-8 years of cellaring. It should last for 30-35 years.” R. Parker, 98 pts. 04/08 6 bottles (owc) $700-1,100 Sauternes 282. Chateau d’Yquem 2001 “There are 10,000 cases of this perfect sweet white Bordeaux. The 2001 Yquem reveals a hint of green in its light gold color. While somewhat reticent aromatically, with airing, it offers up honeyed tropical fruit, orange marmalade, pineapple, sweet creme brulee, and buttered nut-like scents. In the mouth, it is full-bodied with gorgeously refreshing acidity as well as massive concentration and unctuosity. Everything is uplifted and given laser-like focus by refreshing acidity. This largescaled, youthful Yquem appears set to take its place among the most legendary vintages of the past, and will age effortlessly for 75+ years.” R. Parker, 100 pts. 04/05 6 bottles (owc) $2,750-3,500 283. P. Amiot Clos de la Roche 2005 Cote de Nuits 6 bottles $400-600 278. Chateau Pavie 2000 St. Emilion “I tasted this wine twice during the 2000 horizontals, then I actually popped the cork and drank a half-bottle of it. This wine remains, for me, one of the compelling success stories for proprietor Gerard Perse. An extraordinary effort made from a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the limestone soils that dominate this very distinctive terroir, the 2000 Pavie has moved out of the closed, dormant, broodingly backward stage into an adolescent period where one can see its extraordinary vibrancy, and great complexity as well as potential. It boasts an unctuous display of rich, cedar box-infused cassis fruit and liquid minerality. The tannins have sweetened, yet the wine has thirty years of longevity and potential evolution. A beautiful wine of great mass as well as elegance, it is good to see the extraordinary efforts that Gerard Perse and his team have made confirmed in this prodigious wine. A legend now...a legend for the future.” R. Parker, 100 pts. 06/10 12 bottles (owc) $3,750-5,000 279. Chateau Pavie 2005 St. Emilion R. Parker, 98 pts. 04/08 12 bottles (owc) $3,000-4,000 280.
