T. Allemand Cornas Reynard 2005
Northern Rhone
“Densely packed, with tar, olive and maduro tobacco notes up front,
holding the massive core of braised fig, plum sauce and tar at bay for
now. The muscular finish shows flashes of iron, garrigue and graphite.
Very, very long. Best from 2011 through 2024.” JM for Wine Spectator,
Chapoutier Ermitage Le Meal 2005
Northern Rhone
“There are 481 cases of the black/purple 2005 Ermitage Le Meal. As
always, classic blackberry, asphalt, charcoal, and beef blood notes
jump from the glass of this intense wine. Full-bodied, with staggering
concentration and a personality not terribly dissimilar from a first-growth
Pauillac, but showing no evidence of oak whatsoever (and that is in
spite of being aged in 100% new oak casks), this wine needs 10-12
years of bottle age, and should keep for 50-100 years.” R. Parker, 96
Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon 1995
Northern Rhone
“The 1995 Ermitage Le Pavillon is magnificent. The wine is more
accessible than the 1996 (due to lower acidity and more immediately
accessible glycerin and fruit), with a magnificent black/purple color, and
layers of cassis fruit, smoky, roasted meat, and mineral characteristics
that are the result of barrel fermentation and high extraction of fruit. It
is huge, but not heavy, gorgeously proportioned, and dazzlingly welldefined.
A monster Hermitage of immense proportions, it somehow
manages to keep everything in balance. This backward Pavillon will
require 10-12 years of cellaring. It should age well through the first half
of the next century.” R. Parker, 99 pts. 10/97
