ASPIRE’S TOP RECOMMENDATION

Super Centenary
The Girl Guide Centenary starts in September,
two years after The Scouting Association
celebrated its hundredth birthday in
August 2007. The Girl Guides were
formed when a small group of girls stepped
forward at the 1909 Boy Scout rally at
Crystal Palace Park and asked Robert
Baden–Powell (founder of the Scouts) to
develop a similar movement especially
for them. One hundred years (to the day)
later and there are over one millions girls
involved with Girlguiding in the UK.
Centenary Launch
September sees the start of a whole year (5th September
2009 - 20th October 2010) of events and celebrations to
mark this illustrious occasion.
Members from all sections of Girlguiding UK, from
Rainbows through to the Trefoil Guild, are invited to
locally organised Launch parties and, providing it is
practical to do so, will be asked to bring a guest -
someone who has previously made her guiding Promise
but who is not currently a member of Girlguiding UK - to
come and take a fresh look at Girlguiding UK today.
Centenary Camp
Bookings are already being taken for the Centenary
Camp, which takes place from Saturday 31st July 2010
– Saturday 7th August 2010 at Harewood House, near
Leeds in North Yorkshire.
A beautiful stately home, 5000 UK Guides, 2000
international guests, Fusion, your own exclusive Centenary
Camp tent and the most amazing choice of activities - the
Girlguiding UK Centenary Camp is a once-in-a-lifetime
chance to BE THERE at Girlguiding UK’s biggest ever
Guide camp. With the chance to take part in inspirational
opening and closing ceremonies, Fusion and four days of
activities covering every aspect of the Guide programme,
the Girlguiding UK Centenary Camp promises to be an
international camp like no other.

Centenary Finale
Centenary Finale events will be taking place across the
UK to give every member of Girlguiding UK the
opportunity to renew or make their promise
at 8.10pm on October 20th 2010.
Following its launch in 1910, the Guide
Association grew not just into Girlguiding
UK, the largest youth organisation in the
UK, but also into a worldwide organisation
with members in 145 countries. The
Centenary Finale will link the UK-based
Finale events with the young women from
those 145 countries so everyone can ALL
be together as they launch the next 100
years of guiding!

Camp Site & Activity Centre
A Girlguiding UK site of 122 acres of woodland and fields near the Ashdown
Forest in Sussex. Indoor accommodation, equipped and unequipped sites and
toilet blocks for sole use. All sites are open to Guiding, Scouting, school and
other organised groups.

on the Gleniffer Braes.
Lapwing Lodge offers flexible indoor and outdoor
accommodation and a range of activities including newly
added Mountain Bike Trail and High Ropes Course.
Indoor accommodation for up to 92 with individual kitchen,
hall and lounge facilities in each unit and a camping field
