the air above the clouds<br />

the world, more than one<br />

how to fly, not military or<br />
airline pilots, but people who<br />
learnt to fly for pleasure, for<br />
business or both. People just<br />
like you.<br />
By becoming a pilot you will discover a<br />
brand new world of transportation as well<br />
as a leisure pursuit that’s tremendously<br />
stimulating, challenging and rewarding.<br />
This year in the United Kingdom another<br />
8,000 people will begin flying lessons<br />
and if you’re one of them, getting the best<br />
information and training is essential.<br />
Before you can fly a plane solo you have<br />
to obtain your National Private Pilots<br />
Licence (NPPL) from any registered facility<br />
or Flight Training Organisation. You must<br />
do at least 32 hours training plus tests<br />
and your NNPL will cost £131 once you<br />
have successfully completed the course.<br />
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association<br />
UK (AOPA UK) is a member of the<br />
International Council of Aircraft Owner<br />
and Pilot Associations (IAOPA). With a<br />
total membership of over 400,000 in 50<br />
countries, it is the largest association for<br />

Considered by many as the traditional<br />
heartland and spiritual home of the Royal<br />
Air Force, Waddington in Lincolnshire<br />
plays host to the RAF’s biggest Air Show<br />
on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July. The<br />
14th annual Air Show has a well-earned<br />
reputation for appealing to enthusiasts<br />
and families alike, and is considered to be<br />
one of the UK's top military air shows.<br />

there somewhere! Entrance to both craft<br />
marquees is free of charge.<br />
Exhibitions<br />
Whatever your age, you’ll find something<br />
of interest in the Main Exhibition located in<br />
Number 3 Hangar. Exhibits in the hangar<br />
include displays by RAF Waddington's<br />
resident squadrons, aviation museums,<br />
and major aerospace companies such as<br />
Boeing, Northrop-Grumman, Cobham<br />
and CFM/Snecma. The model aircraft<br />
are always a big draw, whilst two other<br />
popular exhibits are the Kart Club and the<br />
Wargames Club.<br />
Classic Cars<br />
The Classic Car & Vintage Military Vehicle<br />
Exhibition is located at the southern end<br />
of the show, behind the main static aircraft<br />
line. Those of you on a nostalgia trip will<br />
have a chance to see again dozens of<br />
classic and vintage vehicles that were so<br />
often the wonder of their day. Entrance<br />
to all areas of the Vintage/Classic Car<br />
Exhibition is free.<br />

Trade & Crafts<br />
The Trade Fair provides an enormous<br />
range of interesting and exciting goods<br />
for the public to buy. In addition to<br />
aviation and military memorabilia for<br />
the enthusiast, two independent craft<br />
marquees, each occupying 4,000 square<br />
feet, offer original, high quality hand-<br />
Jonathan Westwood is an artist specialising in<br />
aviation art. Born in Solihull in 1971, Jon has<br />
had a keen interest in aviation form an early age.<br />
This passion for aircraft has lead to Jon producing<br />
exciting aviation art over the last<br />
decade, with growing success both with his prints<br />
and commissioned original paintings.<br />
Although Jon specialises in Cold War Jet aircraft,<br />
his latest artwork has included the Dam Buster’s<br />
Lancaster and the Avro Shackleton.<br />
Funfair<br />
The funfair, provided by Roger Tuby &<br />
Son, will be operating throughout the day,<br />
so make sure you find time to go to the<br />
fairground during your visit. In addition, a<br />
number of themed flight simulators will be<br />
working around the showground operated<br />
by S & D Leisure Organisation Ltd.<br />
