Norfolk
Be Charmed By
Curlew Cottage
With an array of traditional seaside towns littered
with knick-knack souvenir shops, plenty of farmers
markets to explore and numerous attractions, old
and new, to keep the whole family entertained,
Norfolk is the perfect destination for your summer
holiday.
With such a magnificent location on the edge of Thornham on
the north Norfolk coast, Curlew Cottage is ideally placed for
exploring. Thornham Harbour is about 15 minutes walk along
the sea wall, the wide sandy beaches of Thornham and Holme
are a further half an hour walk away, and the larger seaside resort
of Hunstanton, where you can enjoy wind surfing, yachting and
crazy golf, is just four miles up the coast.
To truly appreciate everything this charming county has to offer,
you’ll need a comfortable and clean base to rest your weary legs.
Aspire would like to suggest Curlew Cottage, a charming twobed
cottage on the edge of the village of Thornham, overlooking
fields, marshland and the sea.
Curlew Cottage is also an excellent base for birdwatchers,
whether you want to see waders and wildfowl in the feeding
areas of The Wash or simply see how many species of birds you
can spot at the areas RSPB Reserves, including RSPB Titchwell,
RSPB Snettisham, and Holme Nature Reserve.
Curlew Cottage has been welcoming guests from across the
globe to north Norfolk for over 30 years, but since 2003, the
cottage has been in the safe hands of Sally Tarlton, who took
over the running of the property from her late mother. Sally
told Aspire: “My parents opened the cottage up as holiday
accommodation in the early 1980’s, but it was left to me in
my mum’s will. I’ve done a few things to the cottage each year
since, gradually updating and redecorating it. It really is a lovely,
picturesque place to be, so much so that many guests return year
after year.”
With two bedrooms (one double with sea-view and one with
bunk-beds and single), a large family bathroom, a lounge that
boasts spectacular views of the sea, a dining room with new
furniture, and a fully-equipped kitchen with dishwasher and
washing machine for those long stays, it’s not hard to see why so
many people chose Curlew Cottage.
If you want somewhere to sit back and relax this summer, the
long, shared garden at Curlew Cottage is perfect; from here, you
can even take a five minute stroll into the village, where you’ll
find two pubs and a restaurant, including the award-winning
Lifeboat Inn.
Open all year round, a stay at Curlew Cottage won’t break the
bank; prices start from £50 per night in the low-season, whilst
a week-long stay can cost from £280 to £400 depending on the
season. Children of all ages are welcome, but regrettably, pets
and smokers are not.
