FROM THE DESK OF THE PRINCIPAL OF THE HIGH SCHOOLS
Dear parents
A warm welcome back to everyone for the Second Term. New timetables have been issued to all the
learners and we are sure that the changes that we have made will have a very positive effect on all our
learners.
Our matrics are starting prelims on Wednesday 17 th April 2013 and I am sure they have all been preparing
and are ready to start writing. I am sure that the hard work that they have done will result in their achieving
the excellent results of which they are capable.
We are so proud to congratulate Samuel Cohen in Grade 10 on his wonderful achievement in coming in
the Top 16 of the international Bible Quiz. He will be taking part in the final round next week and we wish
him luck and much success.
The annual Yom Hashoah ceremony in memory of the Six Million Martyrs who perished at the hands of the
Nazis during World War 11 was held on Sunday 7 th April 2013 at 10h30 at Martyrs’ Monument, West Park
Cemetary. There were a large number of Yeshiva College learners at the ceremony. They looked very
smart in their school uniforms and I would like to thank all those who represented the school in such an
appropriately respectful manner.
Please note that Tuesday 16 th April is Yom Ha’atzmaut. It is a school day which every student is expected
to attend. Davening will begin at 8.00 a.m. in the main Shul. Learners are to dress in “civvies”. I would like
to remind you that all learners are to dress in a way that is in keeping with the religious ethos of our school.
For girls this means: skirts to cover their knees when sitting, sleeves to their elbows and appropriate neck
lines.
The Zionist Federation is having their annual celebration at Gold Reef City and I would like to encourage
everyone to attend this special event. In order to assist parents, the South African Zionist Federation has
arranged for two buses to transport some of our learners to Gold Reef City. Each of the buses can only
accommodate 60 people, we are offering this opportunity on a first come, first served basis.
There will be adult supervision on each bus and we will take those who book to Gold Reef City and the bus
will also be available to bring them back to Yeshiva College.
The bus will leave Gold Reef City to return to Yeshiva College at 18h00 sharp and anyone not on the bus
at this time will be assumed to have made an alternative arrangement to go home and the bus will leave.
A head count will not be taken.
According to the instructions of the Zionest Federation, any learner wishing to travel on the bus must
complete the attached indemnity form. Bookings for the bus must be made with Devora in the Girls’ school
and Teresa in the Boys’ school and signed indemnity forms must be brought to them.
Wishing everybody a wonderful Shabbos and an enjoyable Yom Ha’atzmaut.
Warm regards
Denese Bloch
