This is an opportunity to spend a day exploring the
piriformis and psoas muscles, developing an in-depth
understanding of these muscles and their relevance
within supine, standing and seated postures, learning
how these muscles affect the hip joint, pelvis and spine,
and relating the theory to asana practice. Please note
that although there will be some posture work, the
emphasis will be on understanding the anatomy of these
muscles. A meditation stool may be useful for the short
talks throughout the day.
Gary is a well-known, highly respected teacher of
yoga. He has lectured extensively on the anatomy of
yoga in the UK, Europe and America. He is the founder
of the Natural Bodies Centre in Brighton, dedicated to
the work and approach of Vanda Scaravelli which was
not so much about executing postures but cultivating the
conditions that allow the body’s natural intelligence to
awaken.
This workshop will introduce you to the spirit of the Gita to
encourage you to make your own journey into its profound
wisdom. We will begin with chanting to help us connect with
our inner selves and the spirit of bhakti. A half-hour visual
journey, with art, music and live narration, will give us a taste
of the overall message of the Gita. We will then look at some
of the Gita’s core teachings, introducing each topic by
chanting the Sanskrit together to help us experience the
teaching at an energetic level. The topics will be: 1) knowing
the eternal self; 2) working without attachment; 3) the cosmic
mystery; and 4) the path of devotion. There will be time for
questions and discussion, and the workshop with devotional
chanting.
The afternoon will focus on putting the spirit of the warrior
into practice. Zoe Knott will guide us into the physical aspect
of the Gita to explore and enjoy Warrior I, II and III.
