Gary is committed to teach, train and encourage body
awareness, ease of movement and efficient use, which can
bring about a renewed sense of vitality through daily life.
The aims of this day are to educate and explain the
anatomical workings of kinaesthetic sense; to relate the effect
this has on asanas, pranayama; to look at the relationship of
kinaesthetic sense and movement of body and breath; and to
explain how the kinaesthetic sense works from the surface to
the core of our being and its effect on posture work.
The intended learning outcomes are an anatomical
understanding of the kinaesthetic sense; an understanding of
how this sense interfaces with yoga practices; an experience
of where the body is in space and in relation to gravity; a
deeper sense of kinaesthetic awareness from the core of our
being; and a ‘tuning in’ to the subtleties of posture and
movement with the kinaesthetic sense.
A block to sit on may be appropriate for the short talks
throughout the day.
The focus for this day is how an awareness of the feet and
ankles in yoga postures affects the rest of the body. In the
morning we will look at a skeleton to see the structure of the
bones and shapes of the arches of the feet and then
explore in the asanas how the arches support the rest of
the body. In the afternoon we will look at some of the
muscles of the lower leg and how these connect the feet
and legs to the spine. We will explore this connection in
sitting postures and look at the effect on breathing and the
emotions.
Lesley Charters has been practicing yoga since 2000
and teaching since 2007, when she completed the
Teachers Awareness Programme with the Inner Yoga
Trust. Lesley qualified as a Foundation Course Tutor with
the IYT in 2011 and teaches foundation courses in
Hampshire, focusing on anatomy and how it relates to the
postures. Lesley is also training to teach the IYT Diploma
Teachers Awareness Programme.
