This is an opportunity to spend a day exploring the theory
of the cranio-sacral system, and how to relate this system
to connective tissue and tensegrity. There will be an
opportunity to understand and experience how
cranio-sacral rhythms work within the body; Gary will
demonstrate how to relate the theory to asana and
pranayama practice.
Please note that although there will be some posture
work, the emphasis will be on understanding the anatomy
of these muscles.
Gary has over 25 years of experience in movement
physical training, anatomical study and bodywork
practices. He has lectured extensively on the anatomy of
yoga in the UK, Europe and America. He is the founder of
the Natural Bodies centre in Brighton. He is committed to
teach, train and encourage kinaesthetic awareness, ease
of movement and efficient body use.
This workshop will aim to introduce an exploratory and more
mobile practice of asana and pranayama, using the Scaravelli
‘gravity, breath, wave’ approach to emphasise and deepen the
body/breath connection; to illustrate how the above can aid
and enhance the personal practice of the teacher and,
ultimately, their students; to provide a workshop to investigate
the morning practice working with asana and/or pranayama
chosen by the group as particularly useful or problematic; and
to encourage discussion reflecting on the above, from the
teaching point of view. By working in pairs or groups we will
consolidate our work and practise some specific asana or
pranayama in more detail. We will discuss our findings from
the workshop session, with particular reference to the yoga
tradition of the individual participants and the possible
inclusion of these findings in regular classes.
Ginny Kempster qualified as a yoga teacher via the YBT
yoga therapy course Over the years she has worked with
many teachers and has been inspired by Sandra Sabatini.
