<strong>The</strong> aims <strong>of</strong> this practical day are to give participants more<br />

knowledge and experience <strong>of</strong> the use <strong>of</strong> sound and mantra<br />

in yoga practice both for their own interest and with regard<br />

to their yoga teaching. <strong>The</strong>re will be plenty <strong>of</strong> opportunity to<br />

practise the use <strong>of</strong> sound and mantra in various ways,<br />

developing confidence in teaching sound and mantra in a<br />

class context. We will look at and reflect on the classical<br />

definition <strong>of</strong> mantra and discuss its relevance both for our<br />

own personal practice and in teaching. <strong>The</strong> day will be<br />

supported by handouts.<br />

Sarah is a teacher, trainer and therapist in the tradition<br />

<strong>of</strong> Krishnamacharya. She also teaches Vedic chant and<br />

mantra. She was a Diploma Course Tutor for the BWY and<br />

a Chair <strong>of</strong> its Education Committee. She is co-founder <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Yoga</strong> Journey, a course for yoga teachers who want to<br />

study, practice and teacher in the tradition <strong>of</strong> Desikachar<br />

and his father Krishnamacharya.<br />

<strong>The</strong> aims <strong>of</strong> this day are: to explore the benefits <strong>of</strong> teaching<br />

yoga to children with an overview <strong>of</strong> child development; to<br />

outline appropriate practices to include precautions,<br />

prohibitions and safety; to raise awareness <strong>of</strong> Child<br />

Protection; to have an understanding <strong>of</strong> relaxation<br />

techniques used to create quiet and calm.<br />

This is a practical day so come prepared for practice.<br />

You will experience a typical class designed for children,<br />

have an understanding <strong>of</strong> relaxation techniques used to<br />

create quiet and calm and you will experience and practise<br />

breathing techniques suitable for children.<br />

Jane Rossi is a BWY teacher and has taught yoga to<br />

children and teens for 16 years in schools and private<br />

classes. She runs workshops in schools on how to cope<br />

with exam stress and is also involved in the Mindfulness in<br />

Schools Project. Jane also delivers the BWY Module<br />

‘Teaching <strong>Yoga</strong> to Children and Teens’.<br />
