A. Immediately North of the bar.
Q. What time of day were you there on
Tuesday
A. I should judge about half past eight:
I think the train left Rhinelander about
twenty or twenty-five minutes late.
Q. Were you in this building that you
speak of that morning
A. Oh, yes.
Q. Did you notice any blood there in the
building
A. Yes, there was blood on the front door,
on the insides of the front door and on the
end of the ice box next the end of the bar
and my recollection is that the calendar on
the end of the bar had some on.
Q. Was there any behind the bar
A. I don’t think so, unless at the ice box.
On the floor there was some scattered
around but the largest splashes were on the
ice box and on the doors, front and back.
Q. Was there any broken glass
A. the greater portion of it had been picked
up and thrown in a box, but it had not
been swept and there were small pieces of
glass both on the bar and in the bar room.
Q. Was Johnson’s body there at that time
A. It was.
Q. Where
A. It lay on a wire wove mattress on the
South end of the building, but near the
center of the room.
No cross.
F.M. Mason
F.M. Mason, being first duly sworn on
behalf of State, testified as follows:
Q. You live in Rhinelander, Mr. Mason
A. I do.
Q. And what office do you hold
A. Justice of the Peace.
Q. Were you called upon to hold an inquest
over the body of John Johnson at
Gagen
A. I was.
Q. Do you remember the day of the month
you held that inquest
A. I don’t remember now, just definitely.
Q. Was it the last Monday of September
A. I think it was.
Q. Was it Monday or Tuesday
A. Well, it was Monday and Tuesday both.
Q. Did you go to Gagen for that purpose
A. I did.
Q. When you arrived there what did you
find
A. I found the body of John C. Johnson in
the saloon.
Q. There was a post mortem examination
made
A. There was, the next day, on Tuesday.
