Nelson, age 89, died suddenly
at her home in Spring Valley
on Wednesday, October
9, 1985. She was born
October 1, 1896 to the
late John L. and Marit
(Nordrum) Nelson, at
Spring Valley. She was
baptized and confirmed
in the Christian
faith and was a
life long member at
St. John’s Lutheran
Church, Spring Valley.
Iva lived and worked
in Spring Valley all her
life. She was a graduate
of the Spring Valley
High School class of 1915.
She had worked at her parent’s
grocery store and also at
circa 1916
Iva Levine Nelson
Bertelson’s drug store, both in
Spring Valley. Iva had been active in
the Circles at St. John’s. Preceding her
in death were her parents. Survivors include
her sister Luella Nelson, Spring Valley, 3 cousins, Ted
Vanasse, Spring Valley, Victor Vanasse, California,
and Helen, Mrs. Lloyd Barnstable, Minneapolis, several
other relatives and friends. Visitation was held
Thursday at the Keehr Funeral Home, Spring Valley,
with funeral services, Friday, October 11, 1985. At
11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spring Valley,
Rev. David Larson officiating. Music was provided by
organist Hannah Hardgrave and Mrs. Clarence (Dorla)
Holm. Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Bearers were Harvey Hanson, Ray Gunvalson, Russ
Gunvalson, Dennis Wood, Kent Hurtgen and Gordon
Emerson.” 27,50
Following the death of her sister, Luella
was moved from her home into a
nursing home, where she died
three years later. Her obituary
reads, “Luella Josephine
Nelson, age 90, of Spring
Valley, died Friday, October
28, 1989 at the
Spring Valley Municipal
Nursing Home,
Spring Valley, Wisconsin.
Luella was
born July 29, 1898 to
the late John L. and
Marit (Nordrum)
Nelson at Spring Valley.
She was baptized
and confirmed in the
