aerogate: On the expansion track
Besides ramp-side handling, Ground Handling
provides passenger handling services through
its wholly owned subsidiary aerogate München
Gesellschaft für Luftverkehrsabfertigungen mbH.
Although the passenger handling segment is
extremely competitive, aerogate, with its workforce
of around 430 people, handled in excess of 35,000
passenger flights in 2008 and increased its market
share in Terminal 1 to 60 percent. More than 30 percent
of total earnings are now generated by an
expanded range of handling-related services. These
include a IATA ticket and last-minute travel agency,
a lost luggage delivery service, lounge and check-in
staffing, and accounting operations at the airport’s
Visitors’ Park.
In 2008, our subsidiary aerogate reported total
sales in excess of €12.2 million.
Cargogate: Still strong in the cargo sector
Although cargo volumes contracted sharply in
the third quarter as a result of the deepening
global and financial crisis, Ground Handling’s
wholly owned subsidiary Cargogate Flughafen
München GmbH transshipped around 100,000
metric tons of freight in 2008.
Cargogate and its 300 or so employees are responsible
for handling and storing air cargo and providing
documentation and customs clearance services
at Munich Airport. Around 40 percent of the flown
freight transshipped at Munich Airport passes
through Cargogate’s warehouse facilities. The Ground
Handling subsidiary reported sales of €12.5 million
in 2008.
