The Electronic Load
Option MPP Tracking (ZS13)
The ZS series Electronic Loads
can be upgraded with the ZS13
option to perform MPP tracking
(Maximum Power Point
Tracking).
MPP tracking is used with solar
panels to determine the panel's
maximum possible power. This
operating point (MPP) is derived
from the characteristic of a solar
panel. The MPP function of the
electronic load searches for this
point and tracks it, even when
Input of system parameters
The extent to which the
electronic load controls via the
MPP can be determined by
inputting the system parameter
no. 53 "Delta_P_min".
The electronic load also needs
details about the values in the
table below:
the sun's radiation fluctuates.
Functional principle
For correct use of the MPP
function of the electronic load it
is necessary to understand the
functional principle.
The electronic load operates in
MPP mode in constant voltage
mode.
If the function is activated, the
load starts with a higher voltage
than the max. voltage of the
These parameters are needed
for the electronic load to set the
suitable current range and find
the MPP point as fast as
possible.
The parameters are saved
permanently to the device and
are available after switching the
mains power off and on again.
Panel data Abbreviation Parameter
Rated power „Pmax“ 48
Voltage in MPP „VPM“ 51
H&H Application Note #10
MPP tracking with ZS series Electronic Loads
solar panel and reduces the
voltage.
When the specified voltage on
the electronic load is less than
the actual voltage of the solar
panel, current starts to flow.
The electronic load continually
measures voltage and current
and calculates the recorded
power.
While the power increases the
direction of the voltage change
is retained. If the power falls
(when the settings exceed the
maximum power) the direction
of the voltage change reverses
so that the power rises again.
