explore a variety <strong>of</strong> image-making<br />

Boghosian. This multi-media class will<br />
incorporate drawing, painting, collage<br />
and sculpture into the art-making<br />

Intro to Watercolor<br />

Join this class and experience the<br />
expressive nature <strong>of</strong> this wonderful<br />
paint medium, while learning to<br />
control its fluid movement, or let it<br />
go and see where it takes you! You<br />
will acquire a basic knowledge <strong>of</strong><br />
watercolor practices, exploring color<br />
temperature, color mixing, light and<br />
shadow. Techniques such as wetin-wet,<br />
wet-on-dry and glazing will<br />
be introduced, using the still-life<br />
and landscape as subject matter.<br />

Beyond the Basics: Acrylics<br />

and want to try to stretch your artistic<br />

Students may choose their own focus,<br />
or work from a challenging still-life<br />
set-up. Move beyond your standard<br />
application <strong>of</strong> paint to picture plane<br />
by exploring various gels, mediums<br />
and painting effects. Materials not<br />

Oil Painting: The Basics<br />

This is a drop in session for <strong>Art</strong> Center<br />
students or intermediate to advanced<br />
artists as a time to use our studio<br />
and focus on individual projects. An<br />
instructor will be present to answer<br />
questions, but participant’s projects will<br />
be self-guided. Students will receive<br />
an “Open Studio Punch Card” to gain<br />
access to the studio for 5 prepaid<br />
sessions. Punch cards are available<br />
through the <strong>Art</strong> Center <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

the Beginner<br />

this painting medium. Join Monique<br />
Staples as she guides you through the<br />
many approaches <strong>of</strong> acrylic painting,<br />
from wet into wet applications to dry<br />
painting techniques, thinned with<br />
water or straight out <strong>of</strong> the tube,<br />
with a brush or palette knife. You will<br />
learn that acrylic painting is fun and<br />

A Big Splash! Expressive<br />
Watercolor Painting<br />
Instructor: Bruce McColl<br />
Thurs. 10 am-noon, 5/9 - 5/30<br />

Join artist and <strong>Art</strong> Center Director,<br />
Bruce McColl, in this dynamic class<br />
in which students will discover<br />
the virtues <strong>of</strong> painterly watercolor<br />
while working from interior<br />
arrangements that includes flowers,<br />
still life elements, a live model and<br />
landscapes. Rooted in the traditions <strong>of</strong><br />
modernism, and inspired by painters<br />
such as Matisse, Marin and H<strong>of</strong>mann,<br />
Bruce will challenge students to<br />
broaden their perspective on the<br />
application <strong>of</strong> watercolor painting by<br />
using expressive color and dynamic<br />
movement on a large scale. This<br />
course is recommended for students<br />
with some experience in watercolor<br />
painting who are willing to take risks<br />
with their painting practice.<br />

Instructor: John O’Shaughnessy<br />

The expressive art <strong>of</strong> portrait painting<br />
has long been used to capture the<br />
personality <strong>of</strong> an individual. In this<br />
class, students will be using the<br />
versatile medium <strong>of</strong> oil paint to learn<br />
the techniques used to portray this<br />
essence. Work from a live model as<br />
well as explore self-portraiture over<br />
a period <strong>of</strong> 5 weeks, and immerse<br />
yourself in this time-honored genre<br />
<strong>of</strong> painting. Materials not provided.<br />
