Construction, Assemblage
and Collage
Instructor: Kristi Nyhan

Create your own worlds using
construction, assemblage and
collage techniques. Students will
explore a variety of image-making
approaches, being guided by such
artists as Joseph Cornell, Pablo
Picasso, Romare Bearden and Varujan
Boghosian. This multi-media class will
incorporate drawing, painting, collage
and sculpture into the art-making
process. Students of all levels are
welcome!
Intro to Watercolor
Instructor: Ellen Davison
Mon. 6:30-8:30 pm
$150, Maximum 8 students
Join this class and experience the
expressive nature of this wonderful
paint medium, while learning to
control its fluid movement, or let it
go and see where it takes you! You
will acquire a basic knowledge of
watercolor practices, exploring color
temperature, color mixing, light and
shadow. Techniques such as wetin-wet,
wet-on-dry and glazing will
be introduced, using the still-life
and landscape as subject matter.
Materials not provided. Art supplies
are available at the Museum Shop at

Beyond the Basics: Acrylics
for the More Adventurous

If you’ve mastered the basics of acrylics
and want to try to stretch your artistic
abilities, this is the class for you!
Students may choose their own focus,
or work from a challenging still-life
set-up. Move beyond your standard
application of paint to picture plane
by exploring various gels, mediums
and painting effects. Materials not
provided. Art supplies are available at
the Museum Shop at a 20% student

Oil Painting: The Basics

Wed. 9:30 am-noon with June
or Wed. 6:30-9 pm with John

Join the oil painting studio no matter
your level of experience. As you work
from the still-life, reproductions of
master paintings, or photographs, you
will gain the skills you need to be a
more assured painter in oil. Learn why
oil painting is loved by so many in this
exciting introductory course. Materials

at the Museum Shop at 20% student

Open Studio: Acrylics
Studio Monitor: Linn Krikorian
Wed. 10 am-12:30 pm
$90 for 5 prepaid sessions
This is a drop in session for Art Center
students or intermediate to advanced
artists as a time to use our studio
and focus on individual projects. An
instructor will be present to answer
questions, but participant’s projects will
be self-guided. Students will receive
an “Open Studio Punch Card” to gain
access to the studio for 5 prepaid
sessions. Punch cards are available
through the Art Center office.

Acrylic Painting for
the Beginner
Instructor: Monique Staples
Wed. 7-9 pm

Discover the ease and versatility of
this painting medium. Join Monique
Staples as she guides you through the
many approaches of acrylic painting,
from wet into wet applications to dry
painting techniques, thinned with
water or straight out of the tube,
with a brush or palette knife. You will
learn that acrylic painting is fun and
inspiring. Materials not provided. Art

A Big Splash! Expressive
Watercolor Painting
Instructor: Bruce McColl
Thurs. 10 am-noon, 5/9 - 5/30
$135, Maximum 8 students
Join artist and Art Center Director,
Bruce McColl, in this dynamic class
in which students will discover
the virtues of painterly watercolor
while working from interior
arrangements that includes flowers,
still life elements, a live model and
landscapes. Rooted in the traditions of
modernism, and inspired by painters
such as Matisse, Marin and Hofmann,
Bruce will challenge students to
broaden their perspective on the
application of watercolor painting by
using expressive color and dynamic
movement on a large scale. This
course is recommended for students
with some experience in watercolor
painting who are willing to take risks
with their painting practice.
The Art of the Portrait
Instructor: John O’Shaughnessy
Sat. 9:30 am-noon
$165, Maximum 8 students
The expressive art of portrait painting
has long been used to capture the
personality of an individual. In this
class, students will be using the
versatile medium of oil paint to learn
the techniques used to portray this
essence. Work from a live model as
well as explore self-portraiture over
a period of 5 weeks, and immerse
yourself in this time-honored genre
of painting. Materials not provided.
